HBO: Cotto/Martinez Face off

I feel bad that I don't think Cotto will look like as good of a fighter as he is. His defense just happens to be wide open to southpaws. First thought would be an adjustment defensively but Freddie doesn't work on defense. Cotto had the exact right trainer vs Delvin and the exact wrong trainer vs Martinez.

Truthfully, ANY trainer or even NO trainer would have been fine against Delvin.

This is a fascinating fight and I am really looking forward to it. I like both fighters, but Martinez should be able to hurt Cotto. If Cotto can box smart and take advantage of Sergio's deteriorating legs, then he can always make it interesting. I think Martinez is just too big though and will bust Cotto up. I have it maybe 70:30 Martinez, but that is based on him being fit enough.

Horrible match up for Cotto. He has issues with mobile fighters (remember how much trouble he had vs trout n Shane when Shane moved in the late stages) and Sergio is a much bigger man and a HARD puncher. I look for a stoppage win UNLESS Cotto forgets about pace, throws caution to the wind, and lands a big left hook to the body or head. He will have his moments and do well for the first half but wilt towards the end.
