According to Ali’s 1975 autobiography, he made his way to the Ohio River and chucked his medal into the water. However, years later, Ali admitted he’d actually misplaced his prized possession. “I don’t remember where I put that (medal),” he eventually told reporters. Fortunately, Ali was given a replacement at the 1996 Atlanta games, where he dramatically lit the Olympic torch.
