Yea, using Floyd as an example is a bit rich given his hand injections
Could a brace conceivably help anyone without a bad knee to begin with? I really don't know, but I do seem to remember Yuri Foreman wearing one, in his fight against Cotto, in New York![]()

This whole thing could be a simple case of lost in translation. What constitutes a brace. That pic of the thing Chavez is wearing is not a brace. I wore one of those when I played Volleyball. Another thing people ought to remember instead of shitting on Cotto is the fact that the NYSAC made the call not Cotto.
It may be convenient to just blame Cotto like he runs the commission but for lack of a better term its also just stupid. Hopefully they explain what the problem is.
I have read that the NYSAC made this decision about not allowing fighting with knee braces in 2013.
It's something that Martinez and his handlers should have known about in advance of signing the fight.
So it's not about Sergio specifically...and it's his bad for not looking into whether his special needs were legal under NYSAC rules.

Right, and that's what I assume Martinez wanted to wear here? It's the kind of thing you see on all sorts of athletes. I just can't see how the commission could justify banning Martinez from wearing the same thing they allowed Yuri Foreman to wear, how is that even remotely justifiable? I don't think it's unlikely that Cottos camp may have leaned on them into ruling this way at all, and I don't dislike the guy, or even see that so much as laying blame myself. Some fighters absolutely are bigger than the state commissions in these instances, it's not like a universal body in a legitimate sport, this is boxing![]()

Well it was sorted out. The NYSAC has reversed its ruling. It is just what I would call a tensioned knee pad and not what I would call a "brace"
Latest Boxing News Today: Analysis, Previews and Boxing Results Matches ... -go-in-nycTUESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: BraceGate is a done deal, friends. The New York State Athletic Commission informed Team Martinez that the sleeves he wants to wear, to offer a bit of extra support to his knees, are A-OK with them. Thus, Sergio can have that peace of mind heading into his Saturday clash against Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden.

Any knee support should be allowed. Ridiculous. Nigel Benn use to wear ankle supports!
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

Well that's good, a whole lot of much ado about nothing guess they came to. Does the NYSAC ever give specifics on judgment's and reversals btw? Did he actually have surgery on both knees. I just want that damn bell to ring already, lets hope for a definitive and conclusive shootout![]()

Cotto is the home fighter. He is a New York regular. The first two initials of the NYSAC signify New York. Do the math.
