The thing is Rigo can actually punch hard enough. If someones tries to pressure him with any kind of reckless abandon they would likely be getting pole axed, and people who fight him find this out rather quickly I suspect. Just don't get the dislike for the guy myself, he is a beautiful fighter.

I backed Rigo in round 1 for this one at 10/1. Rigo hits really hard and anyone marching forward will walk onto shots. I cant see this last long unless Rigo wants the rounds but he doesnt strike me as that type of guy.

Hah nice one! Just saw a replay of the "fight", how far into the round was it, would the KO have come anyways or did you really luck out? Kind of made MAyweather-Ortiz look tame :P, but the clash of heads was an accident and it was an obvious total mismatch.

Rigo isn't boring in the least. Mindless clubbing is boring. Technical brilliance is art. You don't judge art on the opinion of those that don't understand its beauty.

There is little doubt in my mind that boxing has been devolving or eroding as the broadcasters, power brokers, pimps and thieves have played on this instant gratification mindset that is pretty much omnipotent in everything else we do. The advent of the very device I use to communicate here and all its spin offs are imo responsible for this shift. We know for instance that areas of the brain once lit are now dark. Not even boxing can escape the clutches of instant gratification due to short attention spans that coincide with this 140 character world. There simply isn't the time. Watching a boxing match that actually includes boxing is viewed as some kind of bent procrastination. Shit half the people at ringside are not even watching the fight regardless. They are staring at a device in case they miss something on Twitter.

Guys like Rigo and Floyd don't come around very often and when they do they dominate. The average fan does not want to watch a surgeon. They want a guy with a chainsaw. The average toga wearing fan most likely suffering from ADD, wants a good ole christians vs lions dust up as do the broadcasters and anything else is a failure. Its to the point where people actually expect fighters that box and don't hang out in the phone booth to do so or they suck. Boxing is being driven out of the sport of boxing.

Btw beautiful parting shot by Rigo to Arum in China. Knocks Sod out in the first round after the guy had won his last 37.

I think you have to make room for others who have a different opinion. Boxing throughout history has had exciting fighters who were "mindless clubbers" and also exciting fighters who were masterful boxers. In terms of efficacy, sometimes one style wins, sometimes the other. You can have your opinion on which you want to watch, but it's not fair to dismiss the other out of hand. Boxing encompasses the entire range of styles.

As a pure boxer, in terms of excitement, I would put Rigondeaux somewhere between Whitaker and Laras. He stays in the pocket a lot, using a beautiful array of techniques to "not get hit." Whitaker would do similar things, but with a natural flair and showmanship that made it more exciting to watch. Laras on the other hand runs halfway across the ring, throws two or three punches, then runs to the other side. I just can't compare that to the defensive mastery of Rigondeaux, much less the wizardry of someone like Sweet Pea. Stylistically, I personally don't consider that to be "pure" boxing, or "defensive mastery."
I save those terms for guys like Rigondeaux.

those with differing opinions speak all the time. We constantly hear them dismiss anyone that boxes as boring. I'm just making a point to speak up when it isn't true, like with Rigondeaux. I have no problem with aggressive fighters. My favorites from youth and to this day are Hagler and Hearns which demonstrates that aggression appeals to me. Mindless clubbing does not. If I want to see a fight I can go to a bar, I watch boxing to see a broad array of styles pitted against each other. But people seem to want to eliminate boxing from boxing. I usually don't speak in absolutes but I did on that previous post saying mindless clubbers are boring to make a point. If those against boxers ever spoke for themselves I'd be fine with their opinion. "I find Rigo boring", that'd be fine. But instead it's always "Rigo is boring" or "Lara is boring" or "Mayweather is boring" or or or. When the guys that speak against any and all boxing in boxing learn to speak for themselves I'll adjust my sentence to I find mindless clubbing boring but until then MINDLESS CLUBBING IS BORING.

I defended (actually applauded) Mayweather when he did what he did, and I defend Rigo here too. Nothing wrong in my book.

They were completely different. In the Mayweather fight the ref had order them to stop and hadnt told them to box again. In this one he clearly did.
