After @JazzWolf revealed that Box Rec has Cotto facing Chavez Jr in December on the http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...vkin-face.html
thread, do you think Cotto should be allowed to dodge Golovkin and fight a guy who has not fought at 160 for years for the right to wear the lineal middleweight belt ?
Boxrec is always fast out of the gate. I agree with 3g but he cannot act as if a middleweight champion being challenged by a smaller man is unprecedented. After all, Cotto himself is no middleweight. As a Cotto fan I wish he would have retired after Martinez and I certainly don't want him to hold the title hostage but he cant even if he wanted to. Its the WBC lets not forget.

Cotto must have an optional because he is considering opponents. Now who knows who that might be. I'm hoping he fights David Lemieux (for selfish reasons) or another top 5 guy but I suspect at this stage in his career he wont. He's going to cash out and who can blame him. They are not going to fight this Krazy Kazak. I have a feeling he will work with Bob and then Oscar. He could fight Bradley and I must say that the possible sound of hearing "and the new lineal and Wbc champion Tim Bradley" makes my blood curdle. Or he could go with the Alvarez fight with the optional since Alvarez is going to 160 anyway.
Because unless Rubio was willing to take step aside money he would be in the mandatory position after Cotto's optional. So Cotto could fight his optional and then Alvarez could pay off Rubio and they could do it in May.

Guys just need to pick a division and defend what they claim, legitamitly. Its exhausting following all of the catchweight charades. Cotto coming off beating 'the man' just has to be expected to aim higher than Tim Bradley for crying out loud! Haven't heard mention of Chavez v Cotto but again Cotto will be outweighed easily by 20+ lbs and 1 box of Cookie Crisps at the opening bell in a agreed go at 160. But Arum is salivating at the stand by Mexico- Puerto Rico rivalry.

Cotto can do what he likes, he beat the man so he is entitled to a voluntary defence and Junior is decent enough.

I've no issues with a Cotto/Chavez fight, but the winner should fight Golovkin.
