    Default Wilder fighting another bum

The guy is embarrassing... largely untested and should be better off in WWF

Fighting Mike Sheppard 21-17-1 on the Porter v Brooks undercard...total joke and hope Stiverne rips him a new one when they fight later in the year

    Job Biscuit (ridiculous)!!!

    eh eh!!

I don't know about Wilder. Kind of reminds me of Michael Grant in the late 90's. He is feasting on pretty weak competition now and not really learning much from those fights or testing himself. I hope I'm wrong, because he doesn't seem like a bad guy. He just strikes me as being moved along VERY carefully.

Well... I'm as annoyed as anyone over how long it has taken for Wilder to take the expected steps up in competition. But in his defense, he does have a scheduled fight with Stiverne. It's not Wilder who got injured... it's Stiverne. So Wilder is looking at this as a stay busy fight. I'm just anxious to see Wilder in there with the likes of a Bermane Stiverne. It'll be about damn time when it finally does happen. This is HW boxing, however, and I've long ago stopped having high expectations.

Ironically, Wilder had this to say about Mike Perez, "As I watched the fight, I felt like Perez was starting to get fatigued, holding his hands down, and you could tell that Jennings is not the athlete that he claims to be. Man, I'm just happy to be a part of the heavyweight division. People are coming around now, because they know that I can bring the heavyweight division back, and I'm planning on doing that."

However, this begs the question: What would happen to Wilder if he were taken into the late rounds by a Bermaine Stiverne?

I'm interested to see how he reacts to a true heavyweight who can punch, wants to win, BELIEVES he will win, and catches him (Wilder) with a good punch. Michael Grant showed some heart in lasting through the tough patches vs. Golota, but was never the same after. Interested to see if Wilder will be similar. Get that first big shot that truly rings his bell and see how he looks after. I'm convinced its mostly a mental thing.

I hear you, especially about Stiverne being the holdup, and this being HW boxing, and in the back of my mind Don King, but I can understand all the frustration about Wilder fighting way below his level.
Stiverne isn't anything to brag about either.

We will find out one day if he is another Seth Mitchell or Lennox Lewis.

Wilder just playing with his food and carrying Gavern. Into the 4th round.. Wilder has a horrible reaction when a guy throws heavy, backing and holding hands up split. Time to close this show

Gavern quits in the corner after 4th

Didn't realize Jason had served as Wilders sparring partner on more than a few occasions..in the gym, not here.

Wilder didn't look good, lackluster performance. He sure didn't seem to be giving it his all.

Don't get me wrong, Wilder has some skills and mucho-power. But you can tell he went easy and didn't want to take Gavern out so quickly. He wanted to get some work. But I assume Gavern couldn't even fight Wilder with Wilder on half steam. Goes to show you that while Wilder is untested, his hand-speed and power are through the roof and when hit he can spark you cold. Sorta like Hearns.

But, we all know, decent fighters and really good champions know how NOT to get hit, can take a better punch, and suck up hard punches much more than a bum who is just simply canon fodder.

Do you REALLY think a Pulev, Ruiz, Browne, Thompson, Arreola, Stiverne or Ustinov/Boystov/Povetkin/Chagaev would just "fold up" like these middle-range dwellers would?

    Certainly not.
