LOL...so you want to have an opinion?..okay Peter Ko's Oleg, Wlad KO's Liachovich and then in Peter/Wlad 2...Peter KO's Wlad and crushes then "caveman" to sort out the whole heavyweight mess....by then Tua will be back to create a truly exciting heavyweight slugfest....I'm all "opinioned" out...Originally Posted by miles

It seems the judges are getting away from awarding defensive fighters. If you look at the Wright/Taylor fight and now the Toney/Peter fight the defensive minded fighter draw/lost questionably. Im starting to believe that the judges are not looking at what is being done defensively and just looking at offensive output. Its a shame because it is wonderfull to watch a fighter like Toney/Wright/PBF when they are on their defense and making the other guy look bad. IMO.

Tua might be back...otherwise I disagree with your post...Originally Posted by The Promoter
Toney was screwed from the moment he walked into the staples center... he doesnt have the power to knock out peter, and the judges were never gonna give him a fair round. he shouldnt have taken the fight. the way his luck has been, he should not take a fight that he knows will go to the cards.
I just moved to a new area, and when I hooked up my cable I got showtime free with my HBO package. I am sure glad I didnt pay for this crap.
A judge scoring a fight one-sided doesn't necessarily mean they saw the fight as one-sided.
"Wait, what? How could that be?"
It just means the rounds were so damn close and two of the judges obviously favoured Sam's bigger appearing shots as opposed to the more conistent measured attack of Toney.
And because a lot of the rounds mimiced each other in appearance the judges were consistent in what they favoured. Not giving a round to the fighter who they believed to be losing because they're scoring too many points the other way.
The judges knew what they wanted to see and they stuck with it.
Put any other three judges in there and you could have a whole different outcome.
I mean if boxing were scored on, say, a 100 point must system, I bet you the scoring ratio would look a lot more close.
That's the 10 point must system for ya.
116-111 doesn't mean that the judge saw Peter destroy Toney.
Should he have started scoring a few more in Toney's favour because he was giving too many to Peter?
No. How could he have? So many rounds were identical. Neither fighter did much different from round to round. So the judges stuck with what they favoured.
I don't agree with 116-111 but I understand it.
And it was hell of a lot more entertaining a fight than I could've imagined! So I'm a happy camper.

How's this for an opinion
Peter-Maskaev Peter TKO mid rounds
Wlad-Peter II WLAD BY KO...he's got Sam's number and he'll dial it up all night when they fight again!!! "Reach out and crush someone" Wlad!
Anyone who really knows boxing can see it plain as day that Toney won that fight!!!!
I would have agreed with you before the Toney fight...but even you'll agree that Peter fought a more diciplined and technically sound fight than he has before...so I'm a little higher on Sam's chances against Wlad now...win or lose, I believe Peter would fight a better fight against WK this time...Originally Posted by Lyle
Sam fought vs a short little fat man...Wlad simply won't let Sam get inside and if he does he'll tie him up...do you not agree
Plus Wlad has the esteem boost knowing he could have KO'd Peter had he thrown the hook more

Here's what's funny to me...I dispise Toney...but I covered the fight & I was unbiased. I said all during the coverage that it was close & it was hard to score...the commentators said so also.
Toney would win the first part of the rounds & Peter the second. Peter clearly had Toney hurt 4 or more times in this fight...his lack of experience led him to back off...I would assume thinking that Toney was luring him in.
After the fight...I stated...CLEARLY...that I thought that Toney did enough to just win a very close fight that could have gone either way...just like each round.
Peter wins. I say fine. Glad he won. Then everyone blasts me for my opinion.
So what was my opinion?
Toney won a close fight that could have gone either way. Totally unbiased.
Peter got the win & I said...FINE. Peter won...a close fight that could have gone either way. Totally unbiased, even though I loathe Toney.
The thing is...& no one here ever gets me on this...I don't listen to the judges. I don't do my round by rounds by typing out what the commentators say. I hear them...but they do not sway me.
This is heavyweight boxing. It's not middle or super or cruiser. Toney is brilliant as a counter puncher...but heavy is here to hurt...& Peter did hurt & on the second note...Peter did go toe to toe with Toney...whom everyone seems to dictate as the greatest of the heavies.
I do not agree & I never will.
Peter won that fight on aggression & not just pitty pat counters all night. Peter backed Toney up & Toney backed Peter up...but Peter was the harder hitter & he also won the fight IMO. Not the judges. Not my fellow posters. Not anyone by me.
That is not the reason for the DRBR. The DRBR is here for my enjoyment, your enjoyment, & all the people who can not catch the fights. I'm no expert, no commentator, no legit boxing writer...I'm just your fellow poster who enjoys bringing the coverage.
You may not agree with my end theory...but I never said that I was the end all be all of the discussions. Like you all...I just offer my opinion. Certain posters like to attack me...certain posters that I consider to complete idiots...but very rarely do I verbalize that...mainly based on the fact that we can all be a little silly over these fights...even when the obvious is in our faces.
The thing is...I thought that Toney scraped a close one...very eneffectively...but I am glad that Peter won...& to me...it wasn't that far of a stretch...like you...I thought it was close...but somewhere during the heat of the moment...you all saw it as a land slide of sorts...& it just wasn't.
Either man could have won...one did...& I have no issues with it.

I agree that Peter fought a better fight...but his lack of training & the possibility of a gas out...really scares me.Originally Posted by The Promoter

Actually going into the 12th round Roach was telling Toney to knock Peter down. But it wasn't coming from a point of view that he needed the knockout to win, it sounded more like Roach was just pumped by what Toney was doing to Peter. I have to admit from about round 7 or 8 onwards I thought Toney was going to kncok Peter out.Originally Posted by rsan-chez
You guys who say Peter never looked hurt are crazy, he's got a great chin but he looked like he was going to collapse and die after about 6 rounds, he could hardly breath.
Every time he landed anything on James, and (by that I mean arm punches because he rarely actually caught him at all) Toney just smiled at him
For those who havn't seen it, I thought this was a more convicing win for Toney against Peter than Wladimir's victory.
Wlad controlled their fight (mostly by holding) but was put on his ass three times, Toney looked hurt once, never went down and was peppering Peter with Counters all night.
It was a virtual carbon copy of his win over John Ruiz. With the deduction I reckon it was about 117-111 Toney.
Just a really, really bad decision
