Please my friend there is an oxymoron in that statement. The British and Mexican domestic scenes are better and more competitive then 99% of the mismatches sold as ppv's. They are a brain drains and rarely if ever meet expectations. Guys like Mayweather beating up some no hoper and raking in 40 million for a workout. Its beyond rape and pillage. These headliners, about 6 of them have indirectly frozen out the core of the sport and the ppv dynamic has directly caused champions refusing to fight real challenges or other champions under the cloak of "boxing is a business" The biggest cop out of the 21st century.
I'm not talking about competition. I have seen better four-rounder's from guys with under 5 fights than I see with 12 rounds of championship boxing.

But I meant that PPV is the Gold Standard in terms of how we count the money- it is the standard for monetary and financial viability.

Like p4pking says it's who can sell them. And on top of that it's the collapse in the talent pool even from when Oscar was in his prime compared to now.

Canelo Alvarez got a higher PPV figure for his first PPV against Angulo than Fishnets got for his first PPV. But who does Alvarez have to fight that can sell a lot? Cotto and maybe Chavez Junior or Floyd again. That's it. Fishnets had Chavez Senior, Whitaker, Camacho, Quartey, Trinidad, Vargas, Mosley, Gatti, Hopkins and so on.

They can put Alvarez in PPV fights and they'll sell a few hundred thousand but if there was a decent quantity of world class fighters around he'd be doing a string of million plus sales.

... and Fishnets did give Floyd a PPV come-up. Without Fishnets, Floyd would not have come up on the PPV scene the way he did.

Mexican fans appreciate the sweet science and the technical nuance moreso than the American fans....

Ppv is hollow sham with zero standards. Nothing more punchable than being asked to shill out 60-70 bucks for a shallow undercard topped off by some primadona one weekend and then having the affiliated network include the same fight as a replay on its next card..and not air some possibly much more entertaining co feature as a result. Think about it, last weekend the ppv boys charged 29.95 for some silly circus crap featuring Brian Vera vs Gabriel Rosado in what resembled a spoof of old American Gladiator repeats. It wasn't too long ago you could drop nearly that and get, on occasion, a SET Don king ppv that was stacked. It's just outlived its usefulness in today's wide open media, at least from a fans perspective not the fighters accountant.
