You'd know better than I, but that isn't typical at all is it? Strikes me if anything it would work the other way around, a promoter would need insurance in order to avoid this kind of thing As far as the competency of the doctors, again I don't see how that would come down to anyone but the commission that employs them and sanctions the event? What is a promoter supposed to do, select them as if they are judges?
I dont know either. I would have thought to host a sporting event where athletes can be harmed that you would need insurance to cover any injuries they may get. I know in the football league I play in that part of the league fee covers insurance and should anything happen during the match fees will be covered. I would think whoever is hosting an event is responsible for your well being. At the end of the day its the refs and the ring doctors fault for what happened. Obviously they were not to know how bad the injuries were but ultimately it is there responsibility for fighters safety and in my opinion Mago deserves substantial compensation. It looks like he may never walk or talk again. If the ref does his job properly and stops the fight a round or two earlier who knows what coud have happened, he could possibly still be a fighter.
