I don't know what happened between .50 and Floyd, but I can tell you that the ability to read is not a reliable indicator of intelligence.
I have known people (we all have) that can read, but can't keep their bills paid or take a coat with them when it's cold out side. I know two people who can't read at all, but own successful businesses.
You might know someone who is a very poor reader and not realize it because they have learned over the years to disguise it.
I have no idea if Floyd can read or not, but if you ever discover someone who can't read, do not make the mistake of automatically assuming you are more intelligent.
