Who is the next boxing superstar?

Garcia has yet to fight 147 and that's where he is headed. Unless he can bring some more lightweights along to beat up I'm not convinced he'll have an easy go of it either. He has some rebuilding to do and while the Matthysse was very solid this is a "what have you done lately sport"...and he hasn't exactly been stellar. Last nights Floyd would very much embarrass him skill wise I believe. Guys like Thurman are still in a flavor of the month kind of running. The network is pushing them like crazy, and for what he lacks in refined skill and achievement Thurman is the type who 'jumps off the screen', he is very charismatic and almost comes off like a freekin professional wrestler in interviews with the speaking in 3rd person. Kid has flair but should not fool himself into thinking that qualifies as substance. The walk to the ring is littered and cluttered with the shells and shadows of ones who were supposed to be "the next".

Great post and there are so many road blocks these days and monopolies etc. I often wonder how many legit greats get or have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Boxing has too much manufacturing today. Its all about marketing..of course, but we lose the opportunity in discovering hidden gems and some talents by assuming and not asking for the full menu.

Exactly my sentiments on Thurman. He is so far from being "the man" until it's funny the way he hypes himself up to be that. Broner tried the same thing, and then came back to reality when he got hit in the face, several times, against Maidana.

Garcia could be the man. He could. A rematch with Matthysse isn't necessary, but I feel he would win again if this turns to be the case.

Garcia needs an arch-nemesis. Like how Ali had Frazier and Foreman, and to some extent Liston and Norton. Like how Floyd had Corrales, was chasing the shadow of Oscar and how the fight with Manny still could be made. I doubt that it will be made, but it has made for interesting hype surrounding them to be interesting.

Thurman could be that arch-nemesis. Matthysse was it to a certain degree, but Matthysse needed more hyping. Brook, if packaged properly, could be a good nemesis. But, without a doubt, Garcia needs one or two build up fights to be labeled as "the man"... and win those in grand style.

GGG is a little old, but his style n the quick blow outs will allow him to enjoy longevity. I think he has the best chance to be the next big superstar.
If Thurman stays humble n hungry n keeps improving, he has a chance. I didn't think Porter was a guarantee n I don't think Thurman is either. Both have potential, but so did Broner n Berto.
If Canelo gets a different trainer, one to take him to the next level n round him out, he will be the man. He has a large following already n a willingness to take on the best.
Crawford is my outside choice to take over next. He has all of the tools and is the only new guy I see who is a complete fighter.
If u think about it, u don't see guys like Hop, Floyd, Hagler, Toney, Sweet Pea, Oscar, Tito, Evander...etc., anymore. Guys like Canelo have talent but don't have the versatility, depth n learned tools necessary to compete at that level

A lot of top names in the sport are giving Eubank Jr glowing praise after seeing him in action or facing him in sparring. Froch thought enough of him to use him in his most important fight. Could billy Joe force Froch back?

Yeh, I don't see Bey elevating to another level. To me he has that glowing look of fragility, though benifiting from huge promotion...and a shit all judge with 119-109?! Two good calls on Crawford, think he is becoming one of the more improved and diverse guys out there. Unfortunately on the otherside of the coin he has the charisma and limelight personality of cold cereal outside of Nebraska.
