I notced this at the time - think 9/11 and 7/7 victims were exceptions when it came to jokes as people were that horrified by events. Ok the tsunami and other events were far more disastrous in terms of loss but the fact that these were murders of such a large scale seemed to numb the world. It also affected the US and UK directly where I think most of these 'jokes' originate.

But you name it when celebrities die and disasters happen jokes such as this emerge - space shuttle, Ayrton Senna, Freedie Mercury, New Orleans, Di & Dodi, Maurice Gibb, Rod Hull ( ) etc etc etc
