Default Peter vs Toney - From an unbiased perspective

Honestly, I kind of like both fighters, so I was really excited for this match. I didn't know that it would be that exciting, it was probably the best high profile heavyweight matchup of the past 3-4 years IMO. When the scores were announced, I'll be honest, I thought the right man won. I'll agree with most of the posters, Toney did outland Peter, and his combos (when he used them) were great. But the whole thing that struck me throughout the whole fight was how much Peter physically manhandled Toney. I mean it's obvious that Peter should manhandle Toney, but some of the body punches Peter landed were just sickening. Peter hurt Toney all night and even though Toney got A LOT of clean punches off, you can't blame judges and the crowd for voting for Peter. I've honestly never seen Toney hurt and Peter wobbled him, had him running and backing up the whole night, and at one point had Toney clinging to the ropes to maintain his balance because a Peter shot fucked up his equilibrium. I like technical boxers like Toney and PBF, but after watching that fight I couldn't deny the fact that Peter had Toney hurt quite a bit and that Peter was a monster. I scored the fight myself and I had the fight for Peter by 3 points, 115-112. There were too many close rounds, so I just wish that people would realize that fact, and stop calling this a robbery. Certain rounds could have went anyway.

Bollocks Toney won by at least 2 rounds, plus Peter lost a point.

I like Peter too but he didn't win this. If he did then you would have to say that Jermain Taylor beat Winky, sure Winky landed the cleaner shots and had better punchstats, but Taylor had more power and Winky's face was battered by his own hands.

If anyone can say in all honesty that Peter won this fight yet Winky lost to Jermain then let him speak now........

I agree. THey had similar outcomes Power puncher vs slap boxer. I scored 114-113 for Peter, and likewise 115-113 for Taylor.
Although I think Toney was landing much more solid punches as opposed to winky.

I think boxing fans are idelogically split when these two types of fighters fight. As you can see, I am swayed more by the fighter throwing the harder shots, while you are predisposed to like quanity.

Gotta agree, I mean not taking away from Peter, but he didnt really execute a solid game plan..Toney landed the jab at will like a Jackhammer and counterd all nite, just cause he had Toney hurt 2x dosent mean crap, Toney had Peter hurt as well..I mean you cant get muck better than landing clean effective punches on your opponent

as far as manhandling I dont remember all that but the Guy outweighs Toney by over 20lbs, bottom line Peter should of Smoked Toney if he was indeed hurt, Toney recovered quick and countered and Boxed his ass off...

I dont know I quit on this topic since, I voiced everything I can and respectfully disagree

I haven't seen the fight but that logic doesn't apply. Wright, even when he was losing, was controlling the ring. There is more to boxing then punch effectiveness and punches landed. Wright won his fight by being the better ring general imo.

Bullnuts! Toney hardly ever comes forward and he is typically a counterpuncher that waits for his opponents to attack first. In this fight, he came forward and beat Peter to many punches!!

    James Toney won the fight.

The problem with alot of the rounds I saw Toney winning is that he won the first part of the round but in the later part of the round he really got pounded around and the judges at ring side are sure as hell feeling the power of Peter we can't comprehend watching on the tube. People have told me Tyson was absolutely amazing to watch because in real life his power seemed godly even the little punches, and yet on t.v. even the big punches seem a less impressive.
