Man that was a fun fight, probably the most hurt ever seeing Tito over his career to me. Nice scraps. Garcia may be a dick now, but he went to war with Chico. Poison Jones and Julio too. Tiger and Fullmer traded enough leather to open seedy shops in some red light district.

Fight of the day. You know it had to be.

2008-Lucian Bute vs Librado Andrade, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Lots of mixed reviews on this one as Andrade did go to the furthest neutral corner but the count was a little cheesy. Wright looked like a bit of a homer but I’m not sure it made the difference because was still well on his feet.

1910: Abe Attell W 10 Johnny Kilbane, Kansas City. Retains World Featherweight Title.

1916: Battling Levinsky W 12 Jack Dillon, Boston. Wins World Light Heavyweight Title.

1927: Tony Canzoneri W 15 Johnny Dundee, NYC. Wins vacant World Featherweight Title.
Canzoneri “showed that he is unversed in the art of pulling his punches and making them appear real. A crowd of approximately 10,000 began calling for action in the fourth round. While Dundee, essaying a comeback after a year’s layoff was widely cheered as he entered the ring he was roundly booed at the final bell. Many of the spectators left the garden at the end of the seventh round.

Dundee, who weighed 140 pounds the month before, entered at 125½.

1939: Henry Armstrong W 10 Jimmy Garrison, Los Angeles. Retains World Welterweight Title. Referee George Blake was the sole scoring official. Armstrong won 5 title fights in October of ‘39! Odd that the ref was the only score keeper.

1987: Baby Sugar Rojas KO 4 Gustavo Ballas, Miami. Retains WBC Super Flyweight Title.

    Fight of the day

1978: Wilfredo Gomez vs Carlos Zarate
Gomez improves his record to 22-0-1 (22) while Zarate, still the WBC Bantamweight Champion, falls to 54-1 (53).`Took a real set on Carlos to move up in weight and go to PR and suffer his first loss. Hes right up there with the top 5 punches all time imo.

1895: George Dixon D 10 Young Griffo, Brooklyn, NY.

1901: Abe Attell W 15 George Dixon, St. Louis.

1924: Jimmy McLarnin W 4 Fidel LaBarba, Vernon, CA.

1938: John Henry Lewis KO 4 Emilio Martinez, Minneapolis. Retains World Light Heavyweight Title.

Note: Although Billy Conn is suggested to be the first lighthev champ to challenge for the hev world title, it was actually John Henry Lewis, losing to the same man in Louis. Philadelphia Jack O'Brien is also said to be first but his fight for the title against Fitzy is disputed as the real deal even though many see it that way.

1960: Joe (Old Bones) Brown W 15 Cisco Andrade, Los Angeles. Retains World Lightweight Title.

1961: Joe (Old Bones) Brown W 15 Bert Somodio, Quezon City. Retains World Lightweight Title.

1978: Wilfredo Gomez KO 5 Carlos Zarate, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

1979: Yoko Gushiken KO 7 Tito Abella, Tokyo. Retains WBA Junior Flyweight Title.

1987: Jorge Vaca Tech. Dec. 8 Lloyd Honeyghan, Wembley. Wins World Welterweight Title.

1988: Greg Haugen KO 10 Gert Bo Jacobson, Copenhagen. Retains IBF Lightweight Title.

2006: Kermit Cintron KO 5 Mark Suarez, Palm Beach, FLA. Wins vacant IBF Welterweight Title.

Vaca got lucky against Lloyd Honeyghan, and the ragamuffin man got his revenge.

That guy had some bad Karma or something. He loses a point on a clear accidental noggin scrunch opening a cut that stopped the fight. His Ibf was not even on the line since the British commission would not sanction a 15 round title fight. They spoke for the Ibf at the time. Incredible close fight. Then after the fight the Ibf stripped the guy for taking part in a none title fight.

    Scabs.

I think Lloyd is one of the most underrated fighters in British history

Vaca did get lucky, but Honeyghan from the first Vaca fight onwards had lost that spark. Even in the Vaca rematch he just threw bombs, lacking the cunning and sharpness he had shown against Curry, Bumphus, Hatcher et al.
