    I study fights fights! What I was referring to was both feet leaving the ground... It could be said that side steps and pivots can be paired! Both feet leaving the ground simultaneously is side stepping.

    You are better off circling left and right than you are moving 'side-to-side.'

    In the economy of movement and the conservation of energy circular footwork is taught first because 1.its easy to do. 2.goes with flow of movement making easier to conserve energy. The blow is not as hard, as like jumping into the hook.
