I don't completely disagree with him. If you were to take a white American who had the exact same record and was world champion at this age, he'd be a lot more well known outside of boxing no matter how shitty and narrow minded a person he was. I think it's a little bit wishful or naive to pretend that isn't true.
What is more important though; and what obviously doesn't register with old Hopkins, is that he gets a lot less respect than he would in no small part because he comes up with stuff like this every other time you put him behind a mic.
