Pavlik ruined himself through drinking not Hopkins.

B Hop is a boring preacher.

Black, white or green, in the ring what he is doing at his advanced age is amazing.

Yet DiMaggio, Williams, Ruth benefited from the racist exclusion of black athletes from the major leagues ?

And yes, that Hank Aaron (A black guy) was the guy who records Bonds broken means nothing, just because you like certain black athletes, doesn’t mean that racism are not in the equation on the occasions when you feel otherwise.

Whites have long demonstrated a preference for smiling black folks. If black folks play by the script set up by whites – don’t be angry, don’t question authority, don’t be arrogant, don’t be political then everything will be O.K.

But if blacks deviate, non-blacks often see it as a racial challenge (in ways they wouldn’t if another white person did it), and react angrily.

Black athletes should not have to kiss your asses

    Hopkins is right.
#1 Barry Bonds DID use steroids as did McGwire and Sosa and all of them paid the price it's just Bonds usage of roids happened AFTER the world caught on to the ped problem in baseball.

#2 Baseball demanded an asterisk by Roger Maris' name as well....he was black as midnight wasn't he?

#3 Hank Aaron (black) was/is the All-Time Homeruns record holder before Bonds broke that record with the aid of peds.

But you go right on ahead and feel persecuted we all know it's your default setting. I'm happy that you take comfort in the fact that if you aren't handed something on a silver platter you can fall back on the awesome excuse "well it must be because I'm black".....such ownership you have of your own destiny, so brave and responsible to blame anything bad that happens to you as happening to you 100% because of your skin color....MLK, Malcolm X, etc they would be SO SO proud of you for always having your race to use as an excuse.

PHILADELPHIA -- Unified light heavyweight titlist Bernard Hopkins believes race is the reason his pursuit of history hasn't been a bigger story outside of boxing.
Hopkins, who set records as the oldest boxer to win and defend world titles, will be two months shy of 50 when he faces unbeaten Sergey Kovalev in Saturday's light heavyweight title unification bout at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN.com, Hopkins was asked the reason his record-setting run in recent years hasn't transcended the sport. "[It's] because I'm black," Hopkins said before the start of his media workout at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym. "What do you think if my name was Augustine, Herzenstein, Stern? Cappello? Marciano? Don't you understand the conflict of interest?

"If I was any of those names of any other background, I'd be on every billboard and every milk carton and every place to be. If we're talking 'American Dream,' here's a guy who almost threw his life away and he took this great country's great attributes and used it -- do for self, work hard and be a law-abiding citizen. I've done that for 26 years."
Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs), who set a middleweight record with 20 title defenses from 1996 to 2005, was released from prison in 1988 after serving nearly five years for armed robbery.
"If you really look at it, I have done the 'American Dream' that people have died on boats to come here to live," Hopkins said. "I have done all of that and then you look back and say, 'Wait a minute, what's wrong here?' A lot of people are not bold to say it, but I am."
Hopkins is no stranger to speaking out about race. In 2011, he made national headlines for comments about then-Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb not being "black enough."
On Saturday, Hopkins faces possibly his most dangerous challenge in more than a decade against Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs), the feared Russian slugger whose 2011 opponent, Roman Simakov, died three days later from brain injuries suffered in the bout.
Hopkins claims a victory over the favored Kovalev wouldn't be enough to crack his top three of most significant in-ring performances. He reserves the top spot for his 2008 upset of unbeaten middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik in a 170-pound catchweight bout.
"That was the greatest moment of my life because it was undeniably white against black," Hopkins said. "The American story against the thug, even though he changed his life. The convicted felon. So it was me representing an entity that had changed in spite of what they say you should be able to do. But once you do it, they really don't want you to do it.
"And so I exposed it and I beat him easily after being a 6-to-1 underdog. And, matter of fact, it even went further. I ruined his life. I ruined his career."
Pavlik was never the same after losing to Hopkins. He surrendered his middleweight title two years later to Sergio Martinez amid troubles with alcohol and retired from the sport in January 2013 at the age of 30.

Sir, you have a bad case of "everyone is out to get the black man!".
Look around, pro boxing is an equal opportunity employer, in boxing you can go to the top or get used up or go to bottom or have most of your money stolen no matter what your skin color is.
Hopkins has done very, very well in boxing and you seem pissed off that everybody doesn't love him no matter what his fighting style is.
What do you think everyone's reaction would be if Wlad started saying he doesn't get the respect he should and then blamed in on being white or Ukrainian?
Just because you are a champion or do great things in your life does not mean you will get the respect you want or think you deserve.
You aren't going to try to tell me black folks wouldn't rather see smiling white faces, are you?

By all means, give the man credit for what he has accomplished and how he did it and if need be stand in awe of it. I know I do but at the same time people need to call him on his bullshit. I know you are infatuated with Archie Moore Bernard but take a pill. This is not 1952, you are not part of the Murderers Row and you never had to fight 160 times to get a title shot. The victim card is lame and an odd way to display extreme narcissism. Goes with the total self absorption of that silly wrestling mask though. The more I think about it, the bragging about ruining Pavliks life combined with all the rest could possibly certify you as a sociopath. And not just your every day regular bargain variety sociopath.

Someone is obviously feeling a bit insecure and needs a bit more attention in the build up to the fight. The most Ridiculous thing is that the sport he's in has had more Black Icons than almost any other.
I wonder if Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt will start saying the same thing?

If he beats Kovalev and then goes on to beat Stevenson when he's 50 he'll actually start to get some national recognition. The US sports media can't ignore a 50 year old guy becoming lineal light heavyweight champ. It's a hell of a story and everybody will want him on their show.

Yes and just like George Foreman he will be loved by the mainstream and he can sell grills and dentures.

Yes he has overplayed the card.
Yes he is right that what he has done at his age-has never been done in anysport.

When it's all said and done, there is some racism in play, but other boxers can claim nationalism, not racism; they just don't.

    For example:
IMO-If Wladimir & Vitali Klitchko were Wally & Victor Williams from humbletown USA, they would be on their 4th box box of wheeties, (or frosted flakes if they're like bong-smoking Mike Phelps).

7up, Coca-Cola, Mr.Pibb, Pizza Hut, Snickers candy, Pez candy, Dominos, Little Nasty Ceasars Pizza, their 6th appearance on the tonight show, 3rd on Dave Ledderman, Menards; Sprint & Verizon would be on a war bid, so, too would Apple & Microsoft.

Yet both Vitali & wlad could be called white guys, but Sports Illustrated doesn't illustrate how dominant they have been as heavyweights. In fact they have somewhat ignored the shit outta them IMO.

So they don't cry that America or Sports Illustrated or ESPN doesn't love them.. it's a pride thing for USA to love Americans, Mexico to love Mexicans for starters.

So if Nationalism eludes Hopkins, then African-Americans should get the brunt of his rant as well since African-Americans have proven unquestionable love for Ali, Ray Leonard, Tyson, RJJ, & PBF.

Hopkins needs to be asked why such a lack of respect coming -first from his own which is as elusive as that from a national perspective.
    but that's just my opinion...
