Because the old boy didn't fight to win he fought to survive. If he wasn't a geriatric legend he would be getting absolutely slaughtered for that non-effort. His punch output was pathetic.
If you take away the romanticism, and just judge Hopkins on his current standing as a top three rated lightheavy, then he wouldn't be getting any credit.
If Kovalev had ever been past eight rounds before the fossil wouldn't have heard the final bell.
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
I think yall forgetting who he fought tonight. Bhop is no pushover. No being able to KO an all time great hofer who has never been koed means what?
I think KOv is the real deal. Cant say same for GGG yet until he fights a real slick boxer.
ONe thing I can say...atleast they are trying...like bhop said....to fight the best out. unlike the supposed "pfp#1" fagweather
Two schools of thought here:
The cynical, "Kovalev couldn't put away the old man so he must be shit" way of thinking....
and the, "Let's give Hopkins credit for showing up in incredible shape as he always does, and withstanding some heavy blows from Kovalev" attitude.
Meh..... I'll choose the latter.

It has to bruise Hopkins more that he was shut out, dominated and flat out boxed by a guy never seeing 'championship' rounds rather than being another early ko victim.
Kovalev boxed his ass off and showed top notch measure. He learned more last night than he had in his previous 6,7,8 fights.
Purposely offensive! On shit?
Calling a white or black fighter overhyped or a stupid fighter in the ring is an opinion.
Saying all black fighters "fight like a bitch" or all blacks are cowards because Ali refused to be drafted into the Army, as a political statement against the Vietnam War are lies.
Look, I have never liked Ali or his mouth and I know there are black racists just like there are white
racists, but you still carried 'purposely offensive' too far, in my
opinion.
Hopkins is a survivor it's his style, Kovalev put him down in the 1st round the writing was on the
wall, he used his craftiness to see to the end, he was out on his feet with 5 seconds to go in
the last round.
Come on @Silkeyjoe you should know better.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
