In what sense "Fraud"? I mean if you're trying to say "he's not a particularly nice chap!", well yeah, there is other evidence of that, his verbal bullying of Joe Frazier, his responses and annoyance on the Michael Parkinson Show. Yeah, he wasn't sweetness and light, but he still was capable of making the whole World (except you, of course) love him and be in total awe of him.
Was he the Greatest ever Boxer? Probably not.
Was he the nicest bloke? Probably not.
Was he the greatest ever sportsman? Probably not.
Did he change sport as we know it? YES
Did he Transcend sport and cross the line between Sport and Entettainment? YES
    IS HE "THE GREATEST"? YES.

    Cassius Clay

It was 'he' who labeled himself 'The Greatest'.

That is not the way it's done.

That would be like a Baseball Player calling himself 'The MVP'.

Cassius was a very good fighter, who had levels of excellence, but
who also was pretty bad in many bouts.

A Great Entertainer, yes. But he came along when Heavyweight Boxing was
sputtering along, and it needed an injection of life.

Luck, timing and a great publicity team was Cassius Clay's ......'best friend'.
