    Default Re: Felipe 'The Flash' Torres ~ 'A Good West-Coast Kid'

    Wednesday ~ February 4, 1970

    Korakuen Hall ~ Tokyo, Japan

    Kuniaki Shibata ~ 28-2-1 {20 KO's} ~ 128 3/4 lbs.
    vs.
    Felipe Torres ~ 19-6-1 {7 KO's} ~ 129 lbs.

    Felipe Torres is brought to Japan to take on talented Kuniaki Shibata,
    a powerfully built 5' 4" Featherweight.

    Kuniaki {Age; 22 years, 11 months} is the #1 Japanese Featherweight,
    and is rated as the #6 Ring Magazine Featherweight and #6 WBC Featherweight.

    Felipe Torres, despite 'back-to-back' losses, is still rated as the #1 Mexican
    Featherweight, and is ranked as the #11 WBA Junior-Lightweight.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    'The Bout'

    Immediately, Kuniaki Shibata shows his strength-and-speed, and outhustles the
    tough Felipe Torres over the early going.

    The action is fast and brisk, as both fighters exchange with sharp punches.

    Thru 5-Rounds, Kuniaki has the clear-edge in Points 25-21 {4-0-1 in Rounds}

    But Felipe comes on, and has a strong rally early in Round 6, and nearly drops
    Kuniaki with a 'double' right-hand to the head.

    But the Japanese fighter shows his durability, and comes back late in the Round
    with his own hard attack, and shakes Felipe with several volley's.

    The last 4-Rounds are fought briskly, but Kuniaki has the slightest-edge in each
    Round.

    Scorecards
    * Referee ........ 50-42 {Kuniaki Shibata}
    * Judge ........... 50-42 {Kuniaki Shibata}
    * Judge ........... 50-44 {Kuniaki Shibata}
