    "Felipe 'The Flash' Torres To Move To Mexicali"

    Once one of the hottest 130 lb. fighters in Los Angeles, Felipe Torres
    after losing '4-Straight' has now moved South to Mexicali.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Felipe Torres >

    I have had '4' hard fights in a row, and I'm a little worn down trying to
    make weight to get down under 130 lbs.

    I think I'll take a few months off, and get stronger. I will comeback as
    a Lightweight, where I don't have to drain myself before a bout.

    Friday ~ September 11, 1970

    Civic Auditorium ~ San Jose, California

    'Lightweight Bout'

    Enrique Jana ~ 39-6-7 {12 KO's} ~ 136 lbs. ~ {Age; 29 years, 10 months}
    vs.
    Felipe Torres ~ 19-8-1 {7 KO's} ~ 136 lbs.~ {Age; 21 years, 3 months}

    Enrique Jana of Argentina has been campaigning out of Sacramento, California
    over the past year.

    The 'veteran' has gone unbeaten {14-0-3} over 3+ years {since April 1967}, and
    is ranked as the #6 Light-Welterweight by Ring Magazine.

    Felipe, is coming off '4-Straight' losses, and is returning as a Lightweight after
    taking nearly 6-Months off.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    'The Bout'

    A closely contested bout over the first-half of the bout, as both boxers exhibit
    good Ring-Technique mixed in with clever counter-punching.

    But Felipe starts to tire in Round 6, and Enrique starts to take command with
    smart in-fighting.

    Both fighters are in 'cruise-control' during Round 7, as the action lulls. Felipe
    does rally late with a good '7-Punch' combination to edge out the Round.

    But Enrique picks up the pace mid-way through Round 8, and dominates the
    last 3-Rounds with sharp in-fighting while backing up Felipe to the Ropes.

    Scorecards
    * Referee ......... 5-3 {Enrique Jana}
    * Judge ............ 6-2 {Enrique Jana}
    * Judge ............ 5-3 {Enrique Jana}

    * UPI ............... 6-2 {Enrique Jana}

    Wednesday ~ October 28, 1970

    Auditorium ~ Oakland, California

    Al Robinson ~ 10-2-0 {6 KO's} ~ 134 lbs. ~ {Age; 23 years, 4 months}
    vs.
    Felipe Torres ~ 19-9-1 {7 KO's} ~ 135 lbs. ~ {Age; 21 years 4 months}
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Al Robinson, from Oakland, was the 1968 Olympic Silver Medalist at {57 Kg}
    Featherweight.

    Al is a tall {5' 11"} and lanky reed-thin boxer who had been highly-regarded,
    but suffered a couple of early career 'KO' losses.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    'The Bout'

    Al Robinson utilizes his height advantage {5"} and reach {4"} to easily
    out-poke Felipe over the first-half of the bout to build up a wide-points
    lead.

    The action closes up some during Round 7, as Felipe is able to get inside
    and score with some decent left-hooks to the body.

    Badly behind on Points, Felipe rallies in Rounds 8 and 9, and shakes the
    the tall bean with right-hand crosses.

    But Al digs in, and withstands the furious rallies from Felipe.

    In Round 10, Felipe goes all-out and slams Robinson with numerous right-hands
    sending him reeling around the Ring.

    Robinson is staggered late from a right-hand to the head, but just barely hangs
    on to make it the Final Bell.

    Scorecards
    * Referee - Vern Bybee ... 6-4 {Al Robinson}
    * Judge - ....................... 6-4 {Al Robinson}
    * Judge - ....................... 5-1 {Al Robinson}

    Saturday ~ January 23, 1971

    Valley Music Theatre ~ Woodland Hills, California

    'Main Event' > Mike Quarry vs. Andy Kendall

    'Main Undercard'

    Angel Mayoral ~ 17-3-0 {10 KO's} ~ 134 lbs. ~ {Age; 23 years, 1 month}
    vs.
    Felipe Torres ~ 19-10-1 {7 KO's} ~ 134 lbs. ~ {Age; 21 years, 7 months}

    Angel Mayoral is a 'highly-regarded' Lightweight from San Diego. Angel is
    a 'fast-handed' 5' 8" southpaw with good power.

    In only 1-Year as a Professional, Manager - Sid Flaherty states that
    "This kid has the goods. He's a future Champion"

    For Felipe 'The Flash' Torres, things have gone 'south'.

    Felipe has lost '6-Straight' since September 1969, and he has only 1-win in
    8-Bouts dating back to March 1969.

    But despite his career being in the 'proverbial tank', Felipe is still regarded as
    a tough boxer, and one not to be taken lightly.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Promoter ........... Don Fraser
    Attendance ........ 3000 {Sell Out}
    Gate Receipts .... $14,000

    'The Bout'

    Immediately, Angel Mayoral shows off his skills, and he 'rapid-fires' right-jabs
    and left-hooks into Felipe's face and mid-section.

    Thru 3-Rounds, Angel is the dominant boxer, and he is pitching a shut-out.

    But things get rough in Round 4 for Angel, as Felipe starts unloading his straight
    right-hand bombs in to Angel's face.

    By the end of Round 4, Angel is cut over the right-eye, and the blood is flowing.

    In Round 5, Felipe pours it on, and shakes Angel several times with straight right-hands
    'down' Broadway. Angel is having difficulty with his vision, as his right-eye is covered
    with blood.

    At the end of Round 5, the Ring Physician checks out Angel, and permits the bout
    to continue.

    The Bell rang for Round 6, but Manager - Sid Flaherty decided to call the bout off.

    Saturday ~ March 13, 1971

    Valley Music Theatre ~ Woodland Hills, California

    'vacant' California State Lightweight Championship

    Raul 'Lobito' Montoya ~ 56-7-2 {32 KO's} ~ 134 lbs. ~ {Age; 24 years, 4 months}
    vs.
    Felipe 'The Flash' Torres ~ 20-10-1 {8 KO's} ~ 135 lbs. ~ {Age; 21 years, 9 months}
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Raul 'Lobito' Montoya is ranked as the #8 Lightweight by Ring Magazine, despite
    losing his last 2-Bouts.

    * September 12, 1971 ....... L Dec 12 > Baby Luis
    * Raul lost his California State Lightweight Championship.

    * October 27, 1971 ........... L Dec 10 > Al Ford
    * Al Ford was the #5 World-Ranked Lightweight.

    But, Raul who has been out of the Ring for 4 1/2 Months due to an injury,
    is surprisingly the {3-1} Betting-Favorite for this 12-Round bout.

    Also, Raul and Felipe had fought once before, that was back on August 9, 1968
    where the two battled to a 10-Round Draw in an exciting bout at The Arena
    in San Bernadino.

    On the other hand, Felipe is coming off a 'big upset' win {TKO 6} over
    Angel Mayoral only 6-Weeks earlier here at the Valley Music Theatre.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    "The Bout"

    Raul Montoya at 5' 3", went right after Felipe's body in the 1st-Round, and
    scored with a variety of solid hooks.

    In Round 2, Raul again attacked the body, and then moved upstairs and caught
    Felipe {5' 5 1/2"} with a hard left-hook to the head, and a short right-hand to
    the point-of-the-chin.

    Felipe was sent down on his 'Rump'. Felipe got up at the '3-Count', and got on
    his bicycle as Raul chased him around the Ring.

    Raul kept up the pressure in Rounds 3 and 4, but he was unable to issue any
    damage to Felipe who withstood the charges.

    By Round 5, Raul was looking a bit tired, and Felipe was able to steal the Round
    with some rapid flurries.

    Felipe stepped up the pace during Rounds 6 thru 9, and kept Raul on the outside
    on the end of his punches.

    By Round 10, Raul was leg-weary and he was unable to maintain any constant
    pressure on the 'elusive' Felipe.

    In the meantime, Felipe was using stiff left-jabs to keep Raul from getting inside
    where he could deliver his powerful left-hooks to the Felipe's body.

    Felipe then came on strong over the last 2-Rounds, and peppered away with stiff
    left-jabs mixed in with right-crosses to Raul's head to sweep Rounds 11 and 12.

    'California State Lightweight Championship'

    Felipe 'The Flash' Torres ~ 21-10-1 {8 KO's} ~ 135 lbs. ~ Height; 5' 5"
    vs.
    Lovelle Franklin ~ 24-7-1 {15 KO's} ~ 135 lbs. ~ Height; 5' 8"

    Felipe Torres {Age; 21 years, 10 months} is making the 1st-Defense of his
    California Lightweight Championship.

    Lovelle Franklin {Age; 26} of Oakland, California is a tall hard-hitting banger.
    But Lovelle {a former California State Lightweight Champion} has been out
    of the Ring for nearly 2-Years, and is making a comeback.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    'The Bout'

    Felipe takes command from the Opening Bell, and lathers Lovelle with an
    assortment of lefts-and-rights to the face.

    In Rounds 2 and 3, it is much of the same as Lovelle has nothing to offer up
    in offense to slow down Felipe.

    In Rounds 4 and 5, Felipe digs left-hooks to the body, as Lovelle starts
    to fade badly.

    In Round 6, Felipe lands several hard right-hands to the head and Lovelle
    goes down at the {1:35 Mark}.

    Lovelle is up at the '7-Count' and wants to continue.

    Felipe resumes with his hard attack, and batters Lovelle. Late in the Round
    Felipe scores with a hard right-hand to the head.

    Lovelle goes down and is counted out @ 2:52 of Round 6.

    Felipe Torres ~ 22-10-1 {9 KO's} ~ Vista Hermosa, Mexico
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Popular Lightweight - Jimmy Robertson {Age 25 years, 4 months} is currently
    the NABF Lightweight Champion, and World-Rated as the #4 WBA Lightweight.

    The 5' 7" fast-handed Boxer/Puncher is on the edge of getting a WBA World
    Championship bout.

    Felipe 'The Flash' Torres is hot again, after posting '3-Straight' impressive wins.

    The 5' 5" Torres {Age; 21 years, 11 months} is the California Lightweight Champion.

    Neither boxer's Championship is on the line.
