Not having a pop at Khan, this stuff doesn't really bother me, but he needs to wind his neck in a bit. The funker said - "Amir Khan is the main attraction" at least a dozen times in this interview, which averages at more than once a minute.

"Hatton and Hamed fought in Vegas but they weren't the main attraction, their opponents were, Amir Khan is the main attraction" (Kugan should have started singing "There's only one Ricky Hatton." Hatton brought more people to a weigh-in than Khan will have at his fight)

"Devon is the fight the fans want, Amir Khan is doing it for the fans" --- "Devon is better than Brook, the Kell Brook fight would be a game of chess but this is more physical" (it's a non-title fight against a guy that got whopped by the guy Kell Brook just whooped for the title)

"When I was world champion I defended 8 or 9 times, so many times" (He defended 5 times and is yet to win the title back)

What Americans (and GBP in particular) don't realise is that Khan doesn't have that big a following in the UK. He made a decision to base himself in the states , and good luck to him. but you can't have it all ways. To the Brits , he's just another decent fighter that isn't a World Champion. I would bet that he has less than 500 fans at the fight in Vegas this weekend. (Closer to 200!) So when people talk about this "Stadium Filler" with Kell Brook, that's not down to Khan. The vast majority of people that go to these Stadium fights are there because of the occasion . I'm not saying that's a bad thing , just not to get carried away with this "He's big in the UK" bullshit.

He probably did leave UK too early and should have built a bigger following.

I'm not sure it would've made a difference. The thing with Khan is that the minute he became pro at I think 17, he was high profile. I don't think there's ever been a connection with a set of fans. Without wanting to sound controversial, he will always have a big Muslim following, but they don't exactly go to support him in their droves. Apart from that, and maybe even BECAUSE of that, he won't build up any other fanbase.
It's a short career and you have to make the money you can , and I don't really knock him for that . My big problem is that he thinks he's great and he talks like he's a World beater , whereas the truth is , that he's decent , has good skills , but definite chin/reaction to heavy shot issues and his record is overrated. When he starts all this crap about "Hearn doesn't tell me what I earn , I call the shots!" , well actually , he's one punch away from being irrelevant.
If it was about self-belief, he'd be an ATG!

Khan is talking nonsence when he says this fight is better than him v Brooks because the styles would make it a chess match. I think this is going to be a cagey fight and Brooks will bring in the power.

I can see Khan avoiding any big puncher like Brooks for a long time.

Khan vs Brook could do as well as Froch/Groves. You underestimate the fervor of the British fans to get behind a big domestic punch up. Just have a look at the weekly small time domestic scene. Save Mexico, nobody is on that level. Even if Devon beats Khan, its still a big fight in Britain. With or w/o ppv. The gate would be huge if promoted properly. I mean no offense but just who the F was George Groves?

Should Khan prevail over Alexander, imo its the biggest "money" fight for Floyd outside the phantom one. Perhaps Floyd would even go to England.

Just watched highlights of Devon on YouTube to remind myself of his style & to see if he has a chance vs Khan

I noticed that he can't cope with maulers and was roughed up when he lost to bradley and porter. He was able to beat come forward sluggers like maidana and Mathyse but Khan doesn't box like any of those.

Amir struggles with bangers which Devon is not so if he gets off to a positive start and make the mentally fragile Devon start questioning himself then Khan wins a pretty convincing decision

What makes this fight interesting is that you could interchange their names in the above. Devons probably pretty close to Khan in speed and from the other side. Amir still steps straight back. That may prove hazardous just like Devon who at times stops to watch the reaction when he lands.

You're absolutely right about the fervour of the British fans and like I said in my post , it's the occasion rather than the fighter. No doubt Khan v Brook would be PPV and it would be a stadium fight, but not because either of them has a massive following. Froch v Groves 2 was so big because of what happened in the first fight. I wonder how many of those fans at Wembley went to the Groves's next fight or for that matter Froch's next fight (if he does fight again.) they're not followers of a particular fighter like for example Hatton or even Josh Warrington. Like I said, a lot go because "it's the place to be!" ( bound to get slated for that!)

That's a good point but it still spells dollars. Half the people that buy ppv generally are probably bot boxing fans. I bet everyone in Britain know who Khan is. Nobody in Canada know who Jo Jo Dan is or even Troy Ross. Its an advantage that Britain can fill stadiums with non followers of either man. That is why Britain remains the historical foundation of the sport. The same type of rivalry between townships in soccer seem to run in boxing. More often then not, that domestic scene on a Saturday afternoon surpasses the so-called main event in the evening. Its the reason Khan/Brook is a huge payday for both men.

This is tough, we got Bradley on HBO tomorrow and Khan is on Showtime here in the US. I'm more into watching Bradley but Khan is always great to watch as you never know what will happen. I guess it is good to have a too much boxing problem but these are fights I've been waiting for.
