    1952: Archie Moore W 15 Joey Maxim, St. Louis. Wins World Light Heavyweight Title. Maxim was guaranteed $100,000, and Moore 10% of the take after Maxim’s take. That would amount to $800.00. Plus, Moore had to take on Maxim’s manager, Jack (Doc) Kearns, as his own. After 16-years as a pro and 160 fights, Moore owns the title.

    The little 5 foot firecracker Walcott actually coined the phrase "the bigger they are the harder they fall"


    1902 Police Gazette stated,
    "From a techincal standpoint three or four fighters have been recognized as welterweight champion, but it was apparent to men who have knowledge of prize ring affairs that they only held that tile on sufferance because of an obvious desire to avoid meeting with a black man who was conceded to be their superior."

    1981: Dwight Braxton vs Matthew Saad Muhammad- Damn he even looks like Frazier in the ring warm up.



    1913: Jack Johnson D 10 Battling Jim Johnson, Paris. Retains World Heavyweight Title. The first heavyweight title fight to be contested by two black fighters. Jack should have fought Joe Jeanette, Harry Wills, Sam McVey or Sam Langford who were all far more deserving of that honour than Jim Johnson.

    1924: Cannonball Martin W 15 Abe Goldstein, NYC. Wins World Bantamweight Title.

    1927: Frenchy Belanger W 12 Ernie Jarvis, Toronto. Retains NBA Flyweight Title.

    1941: Sammy Angott W 15 Lew Jenkins, NYC. Wins World Lightweight Title.

    @IamInuit you are just picking on Terry Norris.

    That fight was strange. Norris wins 9 out of 10 times against Brown but this just have been the one. To be fair it was a good fairy tale story. Always liked Simon Brown.
