For sure, definitely more interesting in the way that Margarito was much taller, longer, stronger, and hit much harder. But skill wise, I don't see a whole lot to differentiate the two. Margarito didn't have one-punch KO power, he wore guys out by landing volume, and he just wasn't going to land volume on Floyd.

He didn't have the footwork like Hatton or the cleverness of Castillo to get in and pin Floyd IMO. Marg was a punch for punch guy, matching guys with punches, and that's just not going to get it done vs Floyd. Also, Marg was a notoriously slow starter. He had all the ingredients needed to get blown out by Mayweather or any other fast-moving slickster. A guy like Cory Spinks would have made a fool out of Margarito. Bob Arum knew what Marg could and couldn't do and matched him up accordingly IMO.

Oh please with Cory Spinks. The guy lost to Mayorga, Judah twice n Karmazin.

Judges saved his but 3/4 times.

Margarito would lose to Floyd no doubt, but I think he could have out worked Cory.

I disagree, and he deserved the nod over Mayorga IMO.

Margarito be fucked and would be swinging at air all day and everyone here be bored to tears. After the fight they say he ducked the real champ Baldo who was actually the champ at the time. Mayweather jerk and all but people that could beat him would have to be Leonard or a Hearns.

I also think Cory Spinks just nicked the fight with Mayorga! He needed at least one of the point deductions to do it on my card if I remember, but those were fairly legit. I remember arguing this with you when I had just joined this place lol.

Mayorga was a hell of a lot better than Margarito ever was at that time as well if you ask me, I'd see Spinks making Margarito look much worse and not having as much to worry about.

This thread is an example of why I can say Floyd has great skills, but he is not a great fighter.

The greats don't have these mythcial questions affixed to them. The greats are too ego-driven to not find out themselves.

We can't ask too many of these questions with Ali or Ray Robinson because if a fighter was ranked, or highly touted, those guys fought them.

Yes Floyd could've beatan AM & PW with skill, but he retired conveniently during the time these two tall ass lanky fighters who both average 100 punches per round were at their peak.

My perspective is simple, no rocket science:
    1. In my book you don't have to be undefeated to be called great
2 Because Great fighters don't leave these questions to be debated on a (he woulda won basis)...

Oh well, so we have to debate on woulda/coulda, when he in fact: Didn't want to fight Margarito for whatever reason we like to insert.

Do you know the story behind why the fight didn't happen?
