Ward is a dandy that already had a head the size of a prime Roy Jones before he turned pro. That was later kept in growth mode throughout the S6 as he was pampered through that. Once the world stopped falling at his feet he went on strike. Andre Wards biggest problem is Andre Ward.

To be fair to Ward, Sugar Ray Leonard came into the game when there was much more interest in boxing. It was '76, Muhammad Ali was keeping eyes on the boxing world but getting visibly older, people were looking for the next big thing, out of nowhere the amazing '76 American olympic boxing team steals the show with Leonard at the fore front, and he's spring boarded into the nation's consciousness.

Contrast that to Andre Ward, who won a gold as part of the 2004 olympic team that was abysmal and therefore got little press, and he came into boxing when the sport had very little interest in it, especially compared to the mid 70s.

Again though, Ward didn't have the "fan friendly" style that Leonard brought to the table, but if Ward had come into the sport in '76 I believe he would have been much bigger.
