Tex Rickard was friends to cowboy legend Wyatt Earp who was the star in the (great movie Tombstone)

Rickard eventually upstarted a franchise in the National Hockey League called the New York Americans

...but...

the press who knew Tex Rickard well as a promoter in Madison Square Garden once called the team 'Tex's Rangers', and the nickname stuck.


Rickard was the first promoter to grossed millions – With Dempsey, they made over$ 8. million in only five fights between 1921 and 1927 and ushered in the "golden age" via the first live radio broadcast of a title-fight
