I always thought him a real dick but he was just a bad ass and it worked for years. Seemed the same guy both in and out of the ring. I enjoyed that fight immensely. He changed later as we all do with age.
It was touching that he visited Dejesus on his death bed and hugged and kissed him when he was dieing of Aids. I'll never forget this photo.![]()

I think Duran once said De Jesus was one of the few opponents he really respected. De Jesus dropped him a couple of times, I think, including a fight De Jesus actually won. That was extremely rare during Duran's heyday. Still... Duran's penchant for not giving his opponents their due early on was pretty grating on the nerves.
