Point of clarification gents.....who was Larry Holmes' rival? People go on and on about how a great fighter needs a rival, well who was Larry's biggest rival? Same question for Mike Tyson while we are at it.

United States Boxing Championships, with the bout scheduled for May 1977.

Larry {Age; 27 years, 4 months} now had a record of 23-0-0 {16 KO's}.
Stan Ward
Stan had defeated {W Dec 10} Jody Ballard on January 29, 1977 to gain entrance into the Tournament.
In the First Round of the Tournament, Stan defeated {W Dec 8} Kevin Isaac on March 6, 1977.
Stan {Age; 27 years, 10 months} had a record of 8-0-2 {4 KO's}.

I take no joy in Muhammad Ali's illness.
But it was Muhammad's grasp for the spot-light that did him in. He couldn't walk away.
