    February 24, 1962

    Westfalenhalle ~ Dortmund, Germany

    Attendance ..... { 9200 }

    'European Heavyweight Championship'

    {#9} Karl Mildenberger ~ 30-1-0 {13 KO's} ~ 6' 1 1/2" ~ Reach; 74" ~ 190 lbs. ~ {Age; 24 years, 3 months}
    vs.
    {#24} Dick Richardson ~ 30-12-3 {23 KO's} ~ 6' 3" ~ Reach; 79" ~ 202 lbs. ~ {Age; 27 years, 8 months}
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Karl Mildenberger will be the 'home-country favorite' as he challenges Welshman - Dick Richardson for the
    European Championship.

    Karl is currently World-Ranked as the {#9} Heavyweight. Karl is listed as a {4-1} Betting-Favorite.

    Dick Richardson will be making the 3rd Title-Defese of the Champinsjip he won 2-Years earier on
    March 27, 1960.

    Richardson, a 7 1/2 year Professional is a big-hitter with the right-hand, but he is cumbersome and rough
    around the edges. Richardson is World-ranked at {#24}, and a win here will move up his World standing
    significantly.

    In his last bout {September 15, 1961} he lost a 10-Round Decision to veteran American - Howard 'Honey Boy'
    King. The same fighter that Karl Mildenberger defeated on November 24, 1961.

    Despite being the Champion, the Wales born Richardson is listed as a {4-1 Underdog}. By trade, Dick is
    a 'Milkman' in Wales.

    ~ Welshman Richardson Scores Remarkable KO In One ~

    Dick Richardson left 9200 German fans in silence at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, as he sent their Hero
    flat-out on the canvas with a 'single' right-hand to the chin, and to be counted out in only 2:35 of the 1st-Round.

    Mildenberger came out banging at the Opening Bell, as he attempted to surprise the Richardson with a
    barrage.

    The German was quick with right-jabs and left-crosses, and was displaying excellent footwork over the
    first 2-Minutes, as he was in complete command during the 1st-Round.

    Then Mildenberger stepped in close, and started to bang and trade with the big-hitting Welshman.

    Richardson was keen to the invitation, and slammed back at the 'overly-aggressive' German. The Welshman
    landed several punches on the inside shaking Mildenberger, and then caught him 'square-on-the-chin' with a
    powerful right-hook, dropping him flat on his back near the Ropes.

    Referee - Philippe De Backer counted out Mildenberger at 2:35 of Round 1.

    Karl was laid out on the canvas for nearly 4-Minutes.

    The Knockout Loss dropped Karl Mildenberger from #9 to out of the Top 30 World Ratings.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Following the {KO 1} over the highly-touted Karl Mildenberger, Dick Richardson was moved up to the #10 World-Ranking.

    Karl Mildenberger ~ 30-2-0 {13 KO's} ~ 194 lbs.
    vs.
    Federico Friso ~ 25-16- 6 {14 KO's} ~ 189 lbs.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Karl Mildenberger is making his comeback-bout, 7 1/2 Months after getting toasted {L KO 1}
    by Dick Richardson.

    His opponent is medium-punching 32 year-old Italian, Federico Friso. The 7 year Professional
    is durable, as he has only been stopped 'once' on 51-Bouts.

    Friso is the former Italian Heavyweight Champion {June 1960}, and is currently ranked
    as the #7 Italian Heavyweight.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ~ Mildenberger Scores Decision Win In Comeback Bout ~

    Kalr Mildenberger looked sharp in posting a one-sided 10-Round Decision win over durable
    Italian - Federico Friso.

    The 24 1/2 year-old German was steady with right-jabs, and fast combinations as he was
    in control from the 4th Round and on.

    Mildenberger was cautious during the first 3-Rounds, as he was measuring Friso with long
    right-hands while moving side-to-side. But once he realized that Friso posed no danger,
    Mildenberger moved in close, and unleashed fast-hands on the counter-punching Italian.

    The German showed no ill-effects from his 'disaster' from Febrary 24th with Dick Richardson.

    The Associated Press scored the bout for Karl Mildenberger {6-0-4} in Rounds.

    Karl Mildenberger ~ 31-2-0 {13 KO's} ~ 193 lbs. ~ {Age; 24 years, 10 months}
    vs.
    John Robert Henry ~ 19-6-3 {6 KO's} ~ 195 lbs. ~ {Age; 25 years, 3 months}
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Karl Mildenberger continues on his 'comeback run'.

    John Robert Henry is an American {New York} Heavyweight that has been campaigning
    out of Stockholm, Sweden since January 1962.

    The 6-Year Professional is also former Heavyweight Champion - Ingemar Johansson's
    sparring-partner.

    John Robert has won all '4-Bouts' in Sweden, and is a durable fighter who has only been
    stopped 'once' in 28-Bouts'.

    This bout will be scheduled for 8-Rounds.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ~ German Mildenberger Impressive In Decision Over American John Henry ~

    Karl Mildenberger took control from the out-set and scored an impressive 8-Round Decision
    over tough American - John Henry in 8-Rounds.

    The southpaw German used stinging right-jabs from the outside to neutralize the American's
    big right-hand swings over the first 3-Rounds.

    In Round 4, John Henry did 'tag' Mildenberger with a big right-hand to the chin that had him
    wobbly for a flash, but the German held on and boxed his way put of danger.

    But in Round 5, Mildenberger took it to the American, and slammed away with heavy hooks to
    both the body and head. Late in the Round, the German caught John Henry with a 'jolting'
    left-hook to the ribs, and dropped him for a '6-Count'.

    Mildenberger then 'dropped' the American again with another left-hook near the end of the Round.
    John Henry took the full '9-Count' and then went fleeing backwards until the Bell sounded
    ending Round 5.

    With the bout well in hand, Mildenberger sent repeated right-jabs into the John Henry, who
    spent the last 3-Ronds backing away, and holding whenever Mildenberger got in too close.

    The Associated Press scored the bout for Karl Mildenberger {6-1-1} in Rounds.

    Westfalenhalle ~ Dortmund, Germany

    Kalr Mildenberger ~ 32-2-0 {13 KO"s} ~ 6' 1 1/2" ~ 191 lbs. ~ {Age; 23 years, 11 months}
    vs.
    Alonzo Johnson ~ 21-11-0 {6 KO's} ~ 6' 0" ~ 192 lbs. ~ {Age; 28 years, 0 months}
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Karl Mildenberger will take on another 'durable' American Heavyweight who has limited power.

    Alonzo Johnon {Rankin, Pennsylvania} is a small Heavyweight, but he is an aggressive and durable
    boxer/counter-puncher.

    Alonzo has only been stopped 'once' {by Cleveland Williams} in 32-Bouts. He also took the
    'highly-touted' Cassius Clay a tough 10-Rounds, in a bout that many thought Alonzo should
    have earned at least a 'Draw' in Cassius Clay's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

    Alonzo is a certified 'trial-horse', as he has only gone 5-10-0 in last 15-Bouts. But he still has
    some 'tricks' up his sleeve, as he has recently upset 'touted prospects' in;
    * December 8 1961 .... {W Dec 10} > Tony Hughes
    * January 16, 1962 .... {W Dec 10} > Tod Herring

    The 6-Year Professional should be a 'stern test' for Karl Mildenberger, who still has to answer
    questions about his 'chin'.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ~ German Victorious Over American - Alonzo Johnson ~

    German Heavyweight - Karl Mildenberger mixed in solid jabs and quick hooks to the body to win
    a solid and convincing 10-Round Decision over American journeyman Alonzo Johnson.

    The German, using his southpaw-stance, scored with repeated spearing right-jabs into the Johnson's
    face, as the American pressed forward over the first 6-Rounds.

    Though the Amercian made-the-fight, he was unable to solve the mystery of Mildenberger's southpaw
    stance and sometimes awkward attack.

    The American only had good Rounds in the 3rd and 6th, when he tagged Mildenberger with solid
    lead-rights to the head, and short left-hooks while inside.

    Mildenberger opened up on Johnson in Rounds 7 and 8 with 'heavy' left-hooks into his body,
    that had the American bending low and protecting his ribs.

    With the 'bout-well-in-hand' Mildenberger scored with more solid hooks in Rounds 9 and 10, as
    Johnson was now backing away and was on the complete defensive, and only looking to survive.

    The Associated Press scored the bout for Karl Mildenbeger {7-2-1} in Rounds.

    Following this victory, Karl Mildenberger was back in the World-Rankings at #26.
