Why does racism have to be involved in a prize fight?? It is a contest between two fighter to determine which is the better man. Hopefully, though that is not always the case, the better man gets the win. The color of his skin or nationality should not be a factor.
The only race that should be considered is the HUMAN RACE!!!!!
Just a moment before you condemn Muhammad Ali & call him racist put yourself in his position for a minute. He went to Rome in 1960 & came back with an Olympic gold medal . He was a hero. He was invited to the White House & had dinner with the President of the United States. What an honor.
Few days later he tries to get service in a diner in Louisville KY & is refused due solely to the color of his skin. Who was being racist in this situation? Can you honestly say that it wouldn't have made you feel exactly the way he didAli said " The President invited me into his home to dine. These people refused me entry & to dine with them because of the color of my skin". Who were the racists
?
What a self revealing threadThe fight wont have any "angle" of race whatsoever. It's a black American vs a Filipino, now of course most people who identify as one of those are likely to back their guy(shamefully
), but outside of that I'd bet it's extremely split down the middle and for good reason. I think Floyd will win but have no investment in the outcome, I'd love to see him lose and just hope for a great fight.
I'm not in America , so I don't have the whole picture on it, but I don't see much White Guy - Black Guy racism aimed at Floyd. A lot of people hate him, but it's because he's a prick basically. And maybe some of "the Brothers" love that because it's one in the eye for the White Guy. that's about as far as it goes racially.
Other people can't stand him, solely because of his style , but they should remember that Floyd has been around a long time, and he hasn't always been this "defence minded win on points" merchant.
Regardless of any of that, the guy warrants respect for what he has achieved whether you like him or not.
Everything is racism, EVERYTHING!!!!!

I apologize to myself for finally looking at this thread. Some things are better ignored.
Indeed sir, it's just ridiculous. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a great boxer, a ring general, defensive master we've not seen since Pernell Whittaker, and yes his attitude between fights/at promotional events is brazen, brash, and unapologetic. Manny Pacquiao is a juggernaut, power in both hands, a great fighting spirit, willing to fight anyone, not worried only about his record as he's been in the professional game for so long he has had a few losses.
These fighters deserve to be talked about on the merits of their skills in the RING not the melanin content of their skin! A pox to you who wish Mayweather Jr to lose simply because of his skin color, and likewise to those who wish the same due to Pacquiao's skin color.
I'm not a fan of either fighter, I've followed both, but all I want to see is a good boxing event I could give 2 shits about who wins or loses, I just want an epic fight, I want the fight to be worthy of the hype that surrounds it!
I haven't seen anything to indicate a "tremendous racial angle" for this fight. The only time we see racizm enter into the picture is when the media pays attention to racist attention grabbing hor's trying to make something that has potential, into a racizm subject. Usually by siding with a victim of a crime. The motivation of those select few is simply to generate $$$ to fuel thier own political agendas rather than to fix a red-hearing of so-called problem with society. The theme of the day has been police organizations. The theme of this fight is money, so how a racist is going to spin it into racially motivated battle of fans backing black against white. The biggest demographic watching this fight will more than likely be Mexica-Americans which btw is Floyd's insistence for haivng the fight on May 2nd. Two traditions for in the US for Cinco-de-mayo day is beer and boxing. It gets plastered all over the bars like the october fest in-order to sell more beer. I couldn't tell you what cino-de-mayo is in Mexico, because I've never assumiluated with the culture. When I look at youtube, most of the people who post stuff about wanting Floyd to lose are black, rather than white. It might be because they are afraid to post, I don't know.
