    Default New Boxing Book

I bought this and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The title of the book is "Mexican-American Boxing In Los Angeles, California." I read a brief excerpt and it talked about a fighter from LA that fought here in Butte in 1907. That hooked me and I bought it.

Good book, but a little disappointing. Great pictures covering a 100 years span, from Aurelio Herrera to Oscar DeLaHoya, and some great bits of stories, but I could have done better with more reading and less looking. More text would have been better.

    Thx will check it out.

I'd reccomend The Ultimate Boxing List by the late great Bert Sugar.

    written in 2011.

Cant say agree with his listing, but totally appreciate the vast amount of categories like:
    Best Body punchers
    best jabs
ten hardest punches thrown by Ernie Shavers lol!
    Greatest canadian fighters
    Greatest British fighters
    Greatest Jewish boxers
    Most awkward fighters
    most fragile chins
    Greatest ring generals
    greatest olympians
    best left hooks

    And my personal favorite:
    Boxing's dirtiest fights
Harry Greb is named several times along with of cousre Fritize Zivac
    #6 Alltime dirtiest fight
Tony Galento vs Lou Nova Sep. 15, 1939 Ring magazine headline called the fight "disgraceful"
    #5 All time dirtiest fight
Teddy Yarosz vs Loyd Marshall II Oct 1940
"eye gouging and the scraping of Marshall's face with the lace of Teddy's glove. Both fighters took turns shoving each other through the ropes. Marshall responded with several ball-busting shots. The Pittsburgh press stated the bout was a fixed job, gone awry with both fighters working hard to get DQ'd.

    Bowe vs Golota made #3.
    The bite fight made #2.
And #1 was Zivic vs Bummy Davis 1940 to which the papers dubbed as a berserk back alley performance. Including at one time 10 straight groin shots, thumbs to the eyes for several straight rounds ending with cops @ ringside prying Davi's handlers apart from the fans & the sportswriters!

Great categories and fun facts in this book.
