If Arreola took himself seriously as a professional athlete and came to the ring in decent shape - not even great shape, just decent shape - that guy wouldn't have gotten out of the first minute.

I said the same thing... money and depression is a dangerous thing... he should not be anywhere near Wilder at this stage... Arreola is not ready to fight anyone of any note.
If he had stayed in shape, looked good, and won convincingly within three rounds, he could have gotten a good money fight with Wilder. Stood half of a chance too.

It's too bad Lopez is unwilling to use his boxing skills to win fights. He established a good lead in the fight. He had a significant reach and mobility advantage over Berto. If he had kept fighting from the outside he could have boxed to an easy UD or late stoppage win.
He should take a look at Gatti's career and learn from the adjustments Gatti made towards the end.
I think the fight changed when Lopez backed himself against the ropes and invited Berto to trade with him. He gave up all his natural size and athletic advantages to trade with a big puncher. That was the beginning of the end. Up to that point he was doing good body work and was effective landing first and maintaining distance.
