Makes you wonder just how Boxing could try harder to embrace technology and help the safety of fighters more, i mean the money in and around boxing is massive so there can be no excuses about cost etc.

I've often though what would be a good idea would be when the fighters have their break between rounds if they could have some kind of mobile scanning device for the head to quickly scan over it and pick up on any internal bleeding etc?

This is fact about how long a CT scan takes - "Modern CT scanners are so fast that they can scan through large sections of the body in just a few seconds, and even faster in small children. Such speed is beneficial for all patients but especially children, the elderly and critically ill, all of whom may have difficulty in remaining still, even for the brief time necessary to obtain images."

Head CT (Computed Tomography, CAT scan)

If they spotted something then stop the fight and get the fighter to a neurosurgeon asap

It wouldn't have to hinder the trainers or cut man while they are talking to or helping the fighter if the device was able to be swung round over the fighters head quickly and was small enough and practical enough, i don't know if such devices actually exist but with all the money boxing generates surely some investment could be made bearing in mind we live in a time of I-Watches and Bionic limbs etc.

If it saves lives and possibly Boxing then more should be done or at least looked into and invested in i think

According to this site they do exist as smartphone apps that do pretty much the same as high end hospital equipment!

“In the past eight months, products that turn a phone into a blood pressure monitoring cuff, a CT-scan viewer, and other health-care gadgets have received Food and Drug Administration clearance. The market is tiny but expected to grow rapidly: By 2015, 30 percent of the world’s smartphone users will be using mobile health products, up from 5 percent today, estimates mobile market consultancy research2guidance. “Health care will be fundamentally different than it used to be,” says Bakul Patel, a policy adviser at the FDA.”

Yeah with these injuries time is always a factor. Always sad to hear a guy lose is life because of the sport, but it serves as a reminder to the risks these guys take each time they step in the ring. That needs to be respected!

Good idea, I think we should ask Floyd to pay for the design and supply them for the future of the sport. He recons he has it to spare,so time to put back in.

Damn tragedy and wakes us up to what we take for granted. Kid had a future and was planning well for it. Every step that can be taken to prevent the chances of injury should be on the table, a constant. I think while all of the technological improvement's are key what gets lost is the human element and responsibility in the protection and insurance of these brave athletes. How many blatant outright mismatches do we see served up in order to showcase some groomed hopeful? Guys packing on 20+ lbs overnight. Sketchy refs who are influenced by outsiders, ones that will not pull the trigger. As mentioned above corner men or trainers who see what we see, a kid taking a thrashing, but are reduced to empty threats and delusional "instructions" on a guy clearly not in it but still sent out. Honestly when I saw the headline with a fighter from Oz I thought it was Will Tomlinson. We've seen a lot of beatings the last week. The kid Chilemba beat the hell of clearly wanted out. On a sidenote I read Roy Jones won a "fight" against another dishwasher and is calling out Huck with a straight face.

When I was young I didn't give much thought on these things, except the case of a Korean guy whom Boom-boom Mancini KO'd, I was little touched by his mother bringing in acupuncturists to revive him. The mother killed herself few months after and what was more surprising, the ref also killed himself just few months after that...

But as I get older, the humanitarian side of me is starting to get hold of me and I'm starting to think there should be more stringent rules and safeguards to prevent this kind of tragedy...
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
