I admitted to having not seen MUCH of Joe pre Lacy, not having not seen anything at all of his career pre-Lacy. I don't see how I had a "clear agenda", seeing as how I blatantly said that I thought he was a great boxer and that I never thought for a second that any of those guys would have beaten him.

I simply saw a compilation on Youtube of a collection of what I thought were bad stoppages and posted it to spark discussion on the topic (hence the "?" in the thread title). Don't see how I'm the bad guy there.

I don't think you are the bad guy but that if you go into a hypothetical situation wanting to prove something then you will find evidence to support it. The Video you posted is complied from that perspective and so of course supports your theory if you look at it that way. I get to some degree why a lot of people don't really get Calzaghe but to just drag up the tired Slappy thing is a bit telling.

Joey C was known to throw some slaps from time to time, I mean come on.

Per search engine AOL I typed : bad stoppages to see what others have. To my surprise the 1st was this thread @ Saddo.

What are some bad stoppages or even questionable that could've continued, but you felt the ref was justified. Here is a stoppage I questioned Walker.

Yeah for sure. He is a favourite of mine but he definitely slapped.
Early in his career though the slaps were rare (but still a tendency) and he was heavy handed. He only tended to slap at the end of a multiple punch assault.
Around the time he fought Byron Mitchell he still had good power but the slaps were more prominent. Then from around the Salem fight (one or two before Lacy if I recall right) his hands were dust and he did slap a lot.
The thing is he COULD still throw good straight shots but as well as the potential to damage his hands he felt that accumulation was the best tactic.
He did though keep power in his body shots throughout.. It was a body shot in the 8th that tipped things his way conclusively against Kessler.

Every stoppage on that Calzaghe video was awful, shameful really. Anyone that argues otherwise is biased.

That doesn't change his greatness. It just shows why people should fight at home because those were terrible.

JC is on my list for the thread of fighters that grew on us overtime because of those stoppages. Too much home cookin' for JC when I first saw him, but he left no doubt with Lacy & Kessler.
