Roman Martinez performed superbly.

So did McWilliams Arroyo, fighting on the same card.

That was a great left hook that drop Ruiz. But Arroyo wasn't fighting a ranked guy. Martinez defeated a ranked guy and forced his way back into the ratings.

True. McWilliams' ceiling might be higher than Martinez's, though. Arroyo dropped a narrow decision to Amnat Ruenroeng in Thailand in the fight before this one, and I think he's (Arroyo) got the goods. I think Ruiz was a last-minute substitution for the guy Arroyo was originally supposed to fight, plus he wasn't ranked, as you say. I think Arroyo bursts his way into the rankings pretty soon, though.

The win kept Martinez relevant after inactivity and his previous bout at Lightweight. McWilliams is already rated.
