Pacquiao did not turn up for the MGM press op instead choosing to have a fan rally at Mandaly bay

"More than 50 people stood on the stage shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but the scene still looked lacking.
An unnecessary plural hung on the banner serving as the event’s backdrop. Instead of grand arrivals, this was just a grand arrival.


A driver of a Mercedes van branded with The Money Team logo on both sides chauffeured Floyd Mayweather Jr. through the venue where he’ll compete Saturday in the fight of the century, but his opponent stayed down the street. Manny Pacquiao passed on the festivities, creating a rare occurrence where two combatants don’t usher in a major fight week by meeting face to face.
Pacquiao held a separate “fan rally” at Mandalay Bay in the morning.
“If I didn’t show up to the grand arrival and I said, ‘Do it somewhere else,’ it would be on the front page because the standards are always different,” Mayweather groaned.
The relatively minor dispute was the latest in a series of disagreements between the camps of the two most popular boxers in the world and a fight-week illustration of why their fight took a half-decade to put together."

"MANILA (AFP) - Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is confident he can beat American arch-rival Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on Saturday with the power of God, after abandoning a life he said was packed with sin condemning him to hell.
Pacquiao is in top form both in mind and spirit after he traded his boozing, gambling and womanising ways for a devout life of prayer, his spiritual adviser, Jeric Soriano, told AFP in a recent Manila interview.
"Manny is a God-fearing man. Inside his heart of hearts he really loved God. Except the world got to him," Soriano said of Pacquiao's party-boy lifestyle before he became born-again in 2012.
Pacquiao now dreams of becoming a pastor and is building a 6,000-square metre "worship house" in his southern Philippine hometown of General Santos as a monument to his spiritual rebirth, Soriano said."

With Soriano's help, Pacquiao a few years ago converted to the born-again faith, which shuns many Catholic traditions such as religious images but emphasises strict adherence to the bible.
He is now building a church, to be called: "The Word for Everyone" and which can accommodate up 5,000 people, in his southern hometown of General Santos, pastor Boy Buan, who is overseeing the construction, said.
In 2012, Pacquiao acknowledged he had succumbed to many of the temptations on offer to ultra-wealthy sportsmen, after the Philippine media for many years dined out on rumours of infidelity, drinking and gambling.
"I do realise I was a weak person before. If I had died the other year, I believe my soul would have ended in hell," Pacquiao told reporters then. "I had faith, but I was doing things which were against the will of God."
In an interview last month before heading to the United States to train for this weekend's Mayweather megafight - predicted to pull in around US$400 million as the two best boxers of a generation finally go head-to-head after years of protracted on-off negotiations - Pacquiao again reflected on his earlier life.
"All the things I loved and wanted were the same things that were most detestable before the eyes of God. I was a sinner," Pacquiao said.
Soriano said Pacquiao confided to him that he felt he was wasting his millions of dollars in boxing earnings on vices.
"Why can't I channel that instead to a church that will speak the word of God?" he recalled Pacquiao saying.
Like the prophets in the Old Testament, Pacquiao claimed God appeared to him in a dream, according to Soriano, a television commercial director who had worked with the boxer in the past.
"He was in a forest, a strong light hit him and pierced his body and he heard a voice asking him: Where are you? Why have you left me?" Soriano said.
Pacquiao was crying in his dream and he woke up with his pillow soaked in tears, and he was soon telling anyone who would listen the almighty joy of being a believer, he said.
Watercooler chats about fast cars with his staff then turned into bible studies as Pacquiao tried to infect them with his new-found faith, according to Soriano.
"They say he's fast in the ring. But when he received Jesus Christ, there was also speed in his (spiritual) growth. He has this hunger to know Jesus," he said.
The conversion also played a crucial role in saving his marriage to wife Jinkee with whom he now has five children, according to Soriano.
Soriano said he became convinced Pacquiao the bible man was the real deal when he held on to his faith even after he suffered a crushing defeat to Timothy Bradley in 2012.
"He got it. He didn't throw Jesus away. He didn't see Jesus as a lucky charm. I knew it was real," Soriano said.
A few weeks ago, Soriano said he got a phone call from Pacquiao at 2:30am in Manila.
It was the afternoon in the boxing legend's Los Angeles training camp.
"He said, pastor how are you? I am not worried. I am not stressed in this fight. God will bless me with favour. Victory belongs to us," Soriano said.
Publicly, Pacquiao has also been just as confident that God will help him defeat Mayweather.
"The Lord, my God that I am serving will deliver him into my hands," Pacquiao said on Twitter.

From the BBC Sport Website , part of Floyd's press conference yesterday. "Mayweather also reiterated his intention to retire after one more fight in September, even though two more victories would leave him equal with heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano's 49-fight unbeaten record.

"People ask me about Rocky Marciano's record but it's time for me to walk away. And I won't miss boxing," said Mayweather.

"The money is more important than any unbeaten record - my daughters can't eat no 'zero'.

"Getting to 50 fights unbeaten might be special for you, but for me it's not."

I said exactly this a long time ago, he ain't worried about the 50-0, he just wants to known as the best ever and he believes that this fight followed by one last major statement does it. Floyd will beat Pac, and then in September, do not be surprised to see him bow out with a major test against GGG at LMW! It's the only thing he can do that will top the Pac fight. either that or if something controversial happens, a Pac rematch.

I remember 2008ish during Manny's rise this forum always crashes whenever he fights. Nowadays, I spend my PPV money to watch MMA because of the meteoric skill development. To me it's just a beauty to witness all disciplines synchronizing flawlessly and it's happening now. Also grew weary on boxing debates, because the majority of fans are blind. Race, religion and PEDS accusations taints a good technical discussion and those are regular in boxing these days. But no matter what, I STILL LOVE WATCHING PACQUIAO FIGHT. No UFC card excites me like a Pacquiao fight. I also like Floyd, but he bores the shit out of me these days. I was awestruck when he mocked N'dou with the shoulder roll. But started to doubt him when he fought a snail of Carlos Baldomir.

Anyway, here's a fucking awesome mini-documentary by HBO. It's obviously heavy on Manny, but they take Showtime to school of cinematography. Best I've ever seen. Got me pumped up like its 2008.

Well, I'm sat here at Heathrow on my 3rd Magners already. We land in Vegas tonight at 21.16pm. Tried my hardest to find a mate willing to pay the £££ and come with me but in the end had to bite the bullet and pay for the missus instead.

She seems excited to be fair, even though she only has a passing interest in boxing. She's already tapped me up for a pair of Gucci sunglasses at the airport but at least I'll be in Vegas for this. Had to pay over 10 times the face value amount for weigh in tickets as well but what can I do after flying all this way, miss the weigh in?
