Yes, the fire bombing of German cities was horrible. I can see why looking back now we would call it a war crime but unfortunately it was the rule of warfare during the age. Germany could have surrendered and saved hundreds of thousands but Hitler wanted to punish Germany for losing the war. The war would not have ended without the carpet bombing. I think a total of 70 million died in WW 2 the majority being civilians. Germany had no qualms of marching into a country and killing millions. Unfortunately the only way they could be stopped was total annihilation. God, what a horrible war.
The same is said of the atomic bombs in Japan. That they saved millions of lives.
Yes, another tragedy but it was calculated an invasion of Japan would cost a million lives. The Japanese had prepared the population to fight. It would have been a bloodbath. More civilians died in the incendiary bombing of German than in Hiroshima and Nagasaki but again, Japan continued to refuse to surrender. If you want to read about some true horror read about what the Japanese did to Nanking China when they invaded. I think it was 300,000 civilians the Japanese butchered in a week. They were terrible creatures.
You always call everyone else a terrible creature but I seldom hear you apply that to your own nations torture, murder and Nazism. All I do is point out that it is all wrong. Try telling the dead of Nagasaki they were the price worth paying, or the people of Dresden, or Fallujah. War is a terrible thing and it happens because there is money in it and little more. Fiat money, the stuff they conjure up and they still need to ruin cities and nations. It is a sickness and they are all war crimes.
Miles, there was nothing good about ww 2 other than it ended with the destruction of the Nazis. The Japanese commuted genocide against the Chinese, it was called the hidden holocaust. You seem to think I feel America is always right, that is not the case but we are talking about history hear. I think it's a horrible thing we used nukes. I do wish the emperor had surrendered. Do you dislike the US so much you don't appreciate the sacrifices the US made for its allies. We didn't do what Russia did and claim territory we fought to get the Nazis out of. No miles, I don't think the US is without sin, but you don't seem interested in acknowledging anything positive we have done for the world, besides, I was just having a little talk with @TitoFan and a couple other guys. I would not involve you in a conversation like this as I don't want to upset you in case you are trying to enjoy a cocktail. If I don't @Gandalf you, my comments weren't intended for you, and just to make perfectly clear, I still love you, I just prefer not to talk certain things with you.
74 years ago today Germany invaded the USSR. One of the bloodiest wars of all time.
@walrus what is your take on the above statement?![]()
