Default Larry Holmes chin - what a recovery

Someone posted the final round of Holmes v Norton the other day on Facebook and I watched it having not seen it before - wow what a round.

Anyway this lead me to looking at some of Holmes other fights and in particular the knockdowns he recovered from - Shavers and Snipes.

Check these out if you haven't seen them. What amazing recoveries - would he have been stopped by a ref if this happened today ?

I do recall Larry saying in an interview he was actually asleep when Shavers hit him but he hit the canvas so heavily it woke him up !

Holmes had an awesome chin to take that punch probably from the hardest single puncher in history.

Probably the best chin or just below Ali for a heavyweight champion.

Leon Spinks also 'rattled' Larry in Round 2.

Larry did say that he was surprised by Leon's power, speed and sharpness.

    Larry Holmes >
"Leon was damn quick. He also had real good power for a 200 lb. fighter. But he just
wasn't big enough {naturally}. He just wasn't built for the long-haul, because he took
too many punches, and he paid absolutely 'Zero' attention to defense."

Thought Snipes was very unfortunate in that fight stopped way to early.

That's what champions do. Holmes had the mental fortitude to overcome that kind of adversity, which is why he's is among the best HW champs of all time.
