I am assuming that you are not European and so maybe your ignorance springs from that, but can you not see the irony of Germany, a country that never repaid the huge debts it ran up after world war one and two, demanding the impossible from Greece. They are literally profiting from the Greeks misery. It has nothing to do with economic incompetence.
Sweden seems to be a pretty amazing country that I look forward to visiting, Xwetie would know more but to suggest that feminism and the movement to extend rights and respects to LGBT people are somehow akin to a plague and centered in Sweden is a bit hyperbolic and doesn't really lend any credence to your ability to make a cogent argument.
I'm curious to see how this Greece issue will effect US markets this am. I think it will open with a dive. Shouldn't be a long term thing for the markets as this doesn't appear to be a domino effect, just not good management in Greece along with all the other issues going along with it. Must be scary to be a citizen there. ATM were running out of money.
It actually appears it Greece demanding money from Germany. They are demanding billions in reparations for ww 1 and ww 2. Hundreds of millions of Euros I think it is actually. They have made some moves to confiscate German property and and threatning to send a tidal wave of islamic fundamlntalists into Germany to punish them. That seems a bit nutty on the Greeks side.
Damn, in one week the Greeks took 4 billion out of banks. If they get the banks open tomorrow with the ELA what will happen. It's the Greek people suffering. Will Merkel just do a bail out. Crazy stuff. Shit, it's not like it couldn't happen in the US. I always tell my wife we should get a safe and put a decent amount of cash in that bad boy.
God bless Donald Trump for entering the race. Here's what he had to say a while ago:
Trump offered an alternative plan for the international trade negotiations under way. He said Ford and other companies looking to move manufacturing to Mexico or overseas should face a 35 percent tax when they ship the goods back to the U.S.
That would bring the plants back home, he argued. “That’s what’s going to happen, and there are hundreds, thousands of those deals,” he said. “I will make this country so rich – if I run on the 16th – just you watch.”

I'd love to see him hammer all the other candidates about why they're all so determined to ship American jobs abroad. Jobs and the state of the economy are the number one concern of all Americans and this would bring a subject no other candidate on either side wants to talk about to public attention. The media would be forced to cover it. It would be a truly populist issue that all candidates from both parties would then be forced to talk about and take a position on.
But unfortunately the GOP and the media will probably be able to bury the truly important stuff Trump is talking about with coverage of all the other Mexican-related stuff he's talking about. And whatever comes out of his mouth next. No message discipline unfortunately. If he just stuck to hammering the jobs issue he'd be the front runner and everybody would be forced to respond to him. It's the economy, stupid.
I hear what our are saying, can't really compare the two however I do worry about a cyber attack or one of those attacks that knocks out the grid making it very difficult to have funds on hand. I keep almost no cash in the house. Now Kirk, are the Euro banks backed in any manner similar to our banks here in the US
Why would the Greek people who are at the very heart of Christianity threaten "to send a tidal wave of Islamic fundamentalists into Germany to punish them" ?
Between yourself and frozensolid-702 you are not really making a great case for being able to construct a rational and cogent argument![]()
Can't say I'm very familiar with the current crop. Apparently they like to party in the street quite a bit but I fear for them. They were already talking about food shortages etc. I do find Greek pizza to be pretty bad. Why did the greeks decide to invade America with horrible pizza.
I haven't heard that threat. Good on the Greek's for voting despite all the pressure not to, but it is the resignation of Varafoukis that worries me. He was meant to resign if there was a loss, not a win. He resigned on a win. There is something going on there, but I feel it could be bad for Greece if he goes. He is someone who intrinsically understands the illogical aspects of this entire charade and isn't afraid to break it all down.
I wish them well, they did what they needed to do. I think the best way to get out of this is still to leave the EU. Get their own currency, be pariahs to the West for a few years, then look east for investment. In a matter of years and with a lot of work Greece could be running and the past left behind them. Let Deutsche bank takes its losses like a fraudulent institution. Then arguably bring on the entire global system collapse. And if this one doesn't rock the shack, then I would conclude that people have become little more than consumerist, me, me, me droids.
