Lewis is about as British as maple syrup and reggae.
If Fury wins, he'll be the first British linear heavyweight champion for a very, very long time.

Fury vacated the british belts to fight for the irish heavyweight title didn't he ? If fury wins he will be irelands greatest heavyweight champion not britians :S.
I don't even think he has an English accent! More Canadian to me.
As for "He supports West Ham!" πππππ

It's because of his silly Canadian twanged accent that he wasn't taken to when he came back home.

It was lucky that old Lenny was never born in Canada, in his opinion he'd had never had a chance of being a boxer as the place is full of wimps.
"My mum took me to Canada when I was 12, but I am British in my heart. There is a real fearlessness to the British that I feel. I came out of a dance in Canada when I was a teenager and about 30 kids came after me and my friend, and I said, βLet's stand our ground.' So we turned to these kids and said, βCome on then, let's have you.' And they all ran away, until there were just two or three left. In East London, that would never have happened. They'd have stayed together and beaten me up." Lennox Lewis

That makes a hell of a lot of sense.
I mean he spent 13 years NOT boxing in England, then came to Canada and started boxing almost right away. But yeah, I see your point, there's no way he would have become a boxer had he been born in Canada.
Imagine if he stayed over in England. He'd have been another clog in a long line of chinless, garbage HWs. He'd be like Price, getting knocked out by every man with a decent punch and crying in the ring.

Lennox would have been a success no matter where he lived or even learned to box. Too good not to be.
I understand you saying that he learned to box in Canada and that his gold is in the credit column of the Canadian system not the GB system. Obviously. But that's not the same as being Canadian. As I'm sure you know.
Also, do remember, Canada are shit at most things so I think we can chalk his success to the man himself rather than the talent that one naturally gains by spending time in Canada.

Nothing against England, I'm sure it's a nice place.
In fact, my grandmother is from Hull so really I have more English blood than Lennox does!

Anybody watching the Pan Am Games?
This is a pretty deep thread. If you guys are going to start subtly slamming Canada then we first have to decipher what is and what is not a sport or we need to include such things as Equestrian, trampoline etc etc.
Other considerations might be population, a countries size, the climate, the amount of money spent and the fact that the UK is not a country.
*money is huge. If we put a fraction of the money you guys do into rowing and our athletes didnt have to have 2 part time jobs and live at home we'd do much better then we do and as it is we are usually in the top five from C-1 to the 8 man.
We dominate hockey.
We dominate Lacrosse
We are dominant in wrestling
We are dominant in MMA
We are dominant in kick boxing
We are dominant in marathon paddling
We are dominant in long track speed skating
We are dominant in short track speed skating
We are dominant in swimming
We are dominant in diving
We are dominant in table tennis
We are dominant in volleyball
Our females are dominant in soccer
I could go on but this is about boxing. Like the Jewish people our best boxers were around for the most part before WW2 and then for about ten years after. It all ended in many ways with guys like Chuvalo and Durelle.
Today we have relied on imports to be sure and if not for Quebec we'd have no boxing community. But we all rely on imports right. Where was Mo Farah from?
Nobody is going to stack up to the rich history of Britain in boxing with or without that British/Jamaican/Canadian.
If Fury beats Wlad its pretty huge on paper but when you put it all into perspective we shouldn't be deceived by it. Wlads been undefeated for what 11 years and the way he has won and those he has fought will have a lot of people saying that he finally fought a guy his size that didn't stand right in front of him. But if Fury does pull it out will people actually believe that he is the best heavyweight in the world? Its for that reason that I would put it in line with Turpin beating Robinson. A one off.
