Default HATTON SAYS WITTER MUST BE PATIENT

Ricky Hatton has told Junior Witter he will have to wait for his chance to step into the ring with him.
Witter has targeted a "superfight" with his British rival after winning the vacant WBC light welterweight title.

But Hatton told BBC Radio Five Live: "My next two fights are virtually done deals, but I could meet Junior down the line if he makes a couple of defences."

Hatton confirmed 13 January as the date for his next bout, against Juan Urango for the IBF junior welterweight belt.

Interview: Ricky Hatton and Junior Witter

"On the undercard will be (Jose Luis) Castillo. Should I get past Urango they're lining up Castillo for me," said the Manchester fighter.

Witter has been seeking a fight with 'The Hitman' for several years, and his promoter Mick Hennessy is confident a match can be made.

But Hatton, speaking to Five Live's Sportsweek from Las Vegas, said: "It's a fight I'd like to happen, but it can't happen immediately.

"Junior has paid his dues and finally won a world title, and now he can focus on defending his belt and put a bit of money in the bank."

Hatton also queried whether his US TV paymasters HBO would be sufficiently impressed by Witter's win over DeMarcus Corley to consider him as an opponent.

"I'll have to sit down and watch the tape, but I've heard it was a bit of a dull fight," he said.

Bradford's Witter, also speaking on Sportsweek, denied his victory over Corley had been a dour and said he would relish taking on Hatton.

"Ricky would come in and try to bully me but I would outpower him. Once he felt the power of my shots he would have to think again," he claimed.

Is Ricky being humble or has he had some confidence knocked out of him?

Dont make anymore of it than it is. Its the same as any fighter who has an interim fight before a big one. They always say the same thing, "im not looking past _______, im only focusing on this fight" etc. nothing more.

With regards to a Witter fight, I want this to happen bad just to shut Witter's mouth. But you know that if Hatton didnt beat Castillo, which (touch wood) we hopefully wont have to worry about, but if, you know Witter would use that as an excuse not to fight Hatton.....

Before friday what has witter EVER done to deserve a shot at hatton? He brought nothing to the table, Has no fan base, not ranked by any govening body that rick was title holder for and the TV networks cant stand him.

What would ricky hatton have ever gotten from fighting witter before friday night

Its not excuses, its just commen sense

    ^^^
IT's very true just as winky couldn't get a big fight before he proved himself now he can get any fight he wants.

Witter was too much of a risk for anyone to fight because he had no name but was a good fighter.

Now witter can demand any fight he wants because he's the champ.

What really had Hatton done before the Kosta fight? Now I'm a Hatton fan, but I do also like Witter. Unfortunately he has been hanging around too long and may have missed his peak. Witter was calling out Hatton before he fought Kosta and said that before Hatton goes off to prove hes the best in the world he should prove that he is the best in England. Anyone could see that Hatton was wound up by Witter but Warren kept him away. Everyone knows that Warren will not risk his meal tickets. We all waited for ages for Ricky to have a chance to proe himself, so long that some began to actually doubt him. Fair play to Hatton, he forced Warren's hand. But if Witter was such an easy option, then why not just beat him and be done. Now they are saying that Ricky is too big and is only interested in big fights and the money. Well looking at Hatton's next fight lined up, what is he adding to his legacy? I know what will be a bigger challenge and make more money and get him another belt. But as we all know there is a bigger risk.
Give both boxers respect, Hatton took an age being gradually brought up to the level where he could fight a world class fighter. Witter jumped in straight at the deep end (even though he didn't look good) and wasn't stopped even at that stage.

Well Hatton brings PPV for starters secondly 25000 fans?? So thats what Hatton brings the big money, why do you think Witter has been calling him out? Witter is lucky to make £20000 a fight, and i hear Hennesey are saying it should be 50/50 split LMAO!! You mean Witter thinks he should get 50% of what the fight makes when he probably brings about 10% of revenue if that to the table, Witter Hatton would be a great fight but 50/50 please Junior it's not April the 1st.
