Berto is fast, but I don't think speed by itself makes someone a good boxer. However, fans are often mystified by it and assume that a fast boxer is automatically good. I fall victim to this too. If we're disecting him, his technique and defense is only so-so and he doesn't know how to adjust. Ortiz and Guerrero are only OK. They're not great. If you really think about it, who has Berto beat that was anything above good?

By the way, this is all relative. He's still a professional boxer that made a lot of money plying his trade. That's remarkable by itself.

His flaw is his shoulder...he seems a little to muscle bound, if he wasn't so muscular he might have a little more endurance.

He fights in a chin first, undisciplined manner and neglects his defense. Against Guererro is eyes and face became extremely swollen early and he paid the price. Because he muscles his punches and the other guy he has torn tendons in his biceps and shoulder on a few occasions. Andre is a face first, not durable guy who neglects defense and is on the decline. Easiest fight for Floyd in other words...

It seems most muscular guys IMO don't have an accurate jab, kinda looping like.
For me his biggest flaw is his genetic makeup (size & reach)
I think he stays in fights because he (does) have so much heart.

    5'6 68 inch reach
Floyd listed at 5'8 72 inch reach is an example that Berto doesn't have reach.

If boxrec has it accurate: Karass 72 inch reach Guerreroo 70 inch reach Ortiz 70 inch reach All over 5'8.

To me his life and death win over Collazo was also based on Luis using his superior reach.
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

What I have seen of him, he has real bad feet. Nobody ever taught him how to fight.

Way too late to learn now.

His former trainer Tony Morgan was a part time boxing trainer, part time meth dealer, so I guess that explains that.

It's a shame such a physical talent didn't hook up with a competent trainer to mold him properly.

Juicing, no defense and legs that move like pogo sticks for a few. Seriously, coming in and going out he moves like a bouie in the rough waters. When guys are rushed onto the stage half packaged and incomplete the flaws become more and more obvious, exploited and irreversible at "the top" level. Broner is one where Bertoitus has set in to me.
