Danny 'Little Red' Lopez is now ranked as the #6 WBC Featherweight. Danny has had a
3-Month rest in preparation for this all important bout.
Jorge Reyes is a tough-slugging banger from Mexico City. Jorge has scored a 'shocking'
TKO 6 win over 'highly-regarded' Alexis Arguello in his hometown on Managua, Nicaragua
9-Months earlier on January 15, 1972.
But, Jorge has only gone 2-3-0 in his last 5-Bouts since defeating Alexis Arguello.
Jorge Reyes who is a Bantamweight, can bang, and is willing to get in with bigger and taller
fighters.
This was a near sell-out at the Olympic Auditorium, with 9400 in attendance.
This bout was one of the greatest Featherweight Battles ever seen at the Olympic.
It was 'toe-to-toe' all the way. Danny Lopez {5' 7 1/2"} standing tall over Jorge Reyes {5' 3"}
staggered each other in every Round.
Danny had little to no defense, and his chin was 'tagged' several times in every Round. The near
capacity crowd were on their feet for the entire bout.
Who was going to crash first. Danny was 'staggered', then Ryes was 'staggered'.
The Mexican supporters of Jorge Reyes were going crazy in each round, blowing horns.
In Round 5, Danny was in real bad-shape as he took '3' solid right-hands to the jaw that had
him reeling. Somehow he survived.
Thru 5 Rounds, the bout was all 'Even' on the '3' Scorecards.
In Round 6, Danny started to get his longer punches in as Reyes was now starting to lunge.
But again it was still a slugfest.
Then at the {2:40 Mark}, Danny caught Reyes with a laser right-hand to the chin, and dropped
him. Reyes took the '8-Count' from Referee - George Latka, and was able to withstand the
next barrage from Danny to get out of Round 6.
