Most incorrectly and overused terms in boxing (by fans)

Ducking. It seems like people like to throw this out whenever their favorite fighters don't get the fight they want.
Shot. Someone has a bad loss and all of a sudden they are shot fighters. They then come back and have some good victories, go figure. Could it be they just weren't as good as you thought they were?

No they were "shop worn" or had "too many miles on their tires."

"Ruined his legacy"


Honestly..... who the hell are we to proclaim such a damning statement? Once a legacy is made... it's made. A guy who wins several championships in different weights.... who wins several epic, classic battles that stick in our minds... who conducts himself with the utmost class and respect for the sport of boxing. How do you all of sudden "undo" that?

Let me clarify. There is a way to ruin your legacy. Say a fighter in addition to being a champion has conducted himself with class, the way Alexis Arguello used to do. All of a sudden he takes to cheating.... to taking drugs.... to disparaging his opponents.... to beating women. That, in my mind, is how you ruin your legacy. But the "W's" and "L's" already in your record are going to stay there, no matter what. So what if you fight a bit too long and get knocked out along the way? It may not be in your health's best interests, and it may damage your win percentage a bit. But does that really ruin your legacy? I say no.

It's an overused phrase in boxing by boxing fans.

This is for Dark Lord Al. Thanks for having the nerve to say that great is an overused term in sports and that can be the truth in any subject. Great according to Webster's dictionary is much more than ordinary size, extent, etc. (The great Lakes) We're talking much above the average. Then we talk about intense or great pain, a great power or a great writer. Something is eminent which simply means that it was meant to happen. Most important and excellent, skillful,a distinguished person. I think about this time Webster was playing with himself. The Thesaurus said and I'll paraphrase because I don't want to put anyone to sleep, Noble, grand, exalted, renowned ,celebrated, high, I'll bet Webster has been that way too, stately,imposing, OK so maybe at the stare down that's true Remember Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson. There was much more bullshit and most of the announcers at fights with a lack of a real opinion or belief toss it our way and it is contagious. Well being a veteran of being punished by teachers in elementary school I was once punished by reading one of the dullest books in the world from cover to cover and I am going to stop here because where I acknowledged your opinion of great is the book I was punished with. Great is overused.
