Unsurprisingly, you've read this how it suits you, which is fine. I however look at it differently. Yes ,Saunders is realistic enough to admit how good GGG is and doesn't have a big enough ego to have to shout out in public how he would beat him. At the same time, I don't believe Saunders would avoid GGG , although I'm not sure he necessarily want it as his first defence IF he beats Lee.
I believe if he was fighting GGG , he would train for it like never before, because he wouldn't want to get battered! And it's that fear (not of the opponent, but of failure.) that drives top boxers on.
The other way is to pretend you're full of confidence to the extent that despite being a relative novice and having beat nobody of note, you tell the world that your fighter "would beat GGG tomorrow" and that "in the MW and SMW divisions, only Ward can beat him!"
