Garlic is I think the biggest one for me. It can be a good flavor, but nothing close to the smell of it starting to fry in a bit of butter.

Fried liver and grilled onions. Could never get around the paste taste but smells tremendous.
Coffee is a very good call. It smells good, but it tastes horrible. I don't believe those people that say coffee tastes good. They remind me of people who drink alcohol like wine claiming a superior bouquet or what have you. Nope, it is poison. End of. Discussion.
Bread is another one for me. It can smell very nice, but at the end of the day bread is just bland old bread unless you put some butter on it.
How do you cope with so much Joy in your life ?
If you cannot appreciate the Joys of a decent Coffee or a glass of Vino then surely something as simple and uncomplicated as warm freshly baked bread must have some appeal for you. The crunch of a newly broken baguette ? Ciabatta? Soda Bread ? Warm Focaccia topped with Olives and Rosemary ?
Let me guess
Mother's Pride sliced ?![]()
It took me a long time to work out, but caffeine has a very disagreeable effect upon me. The same goes for alcohol too. All those stimulants and depressants just don't blend well and they don't taste all that great.
Bread is sometimes nice fresh and warm, but I have no opportunity for that. I eat Ciabatta on my busy day when I have no time to go home and cook, but I eat it plain and it really is dull. Bread is okay for filling you up in an empty kind of way, but I would prefer something more fun like a steak. It is hard to carry steak around all day though in hot weather.
Liver tastes great. Love it though the gravy and onions and a generous helping of buttery mashed potato, make it complete. Not easy to get bang on though. Overdone and it gets dry and almost rubbery and underdone pink offal is not great either. Unless you are a future Tory Prime Minister experimenting with organic casings for your tiny sausage![]()
