This is a crazy mad risk by Khan. He is almost certain to have a title fight for the welterweight title against Garcia or whoever they choose should they strip Garcia of the title. So khan should be looking for a easy fight now and people were guessing Berto or Rios.

This move is ridiculous should he lose. I think Khan can not avoid Canelo for 12 rounds and will get stopped. Khan has not fought a big puncher since Garcia and moved to his new trainer. So moving up a weight and taking on a power puncher seems crazy just for the money and profile.

If he pulls it off it would be amazing and you have to give credit to Khan for taking this chance but I see it as a career ending loss.

The only risk is if he loses so bad (really early embarrassing KO ) that it probably finishes his career. I genuinely believe even that doesn't bother him too much because he's looking for a jumbo payday before riding off into the sunset.
After all, he's showed no appetite for wanting to fight the top WW's, maybe he doesn't want to fight anymore.
    Other scenarios:
If he loses mid to late KO or points - most likely options.it will be expected, he'll be the gallant loser, and will go back to LMW or WW Telling everybody how he's learnt so much and is so much stronger. People will believe that BS, and he'll still get big fights.
If he wins - fucking hell! All of a sudden he's king of the World, and who knows, he might even tempt Floyd out of retirement for a Mega mega bucks fight. But even if that doesn't happen, he'll fight who the fuck he wants and be the A-side, earning a mint.
Clever move by Khan to be fair. He's still shit though!

I agree. I have never been Khan's biggest fan, but you have to give him full credit for having the balls to do this. I will be willing him on as I am a sucker for an underdog with a big heart, but it's a tough ask asking someone who lapses and has a dodgy chin to get in there and fight a much bigger stronger man.

I guess Khan sees Canelo's inactivity as a way to bank rounds, but Canelo for that one minute each round is explosive and very fast. It's a risky move.

Why is anybody giving khan credit for taking this fight? His stock is at an all time low and this is easily the biggest money fight that can be made. Khan fears the other Welters and knows that fighting someone like Garcia or Thurman won't get him anywhere near the payday and he will probably still lose.

If he is going to lose anyways, at least he can make the excuse that he was the smaller man against Canelo. And Canelo just shows that he's a slightly better version of Chavez jr by fighting people half his size almost every fight.

It makes Khan look good and Alvarez look terrible. And it's a big payday for Khan. But he's going to get his head taken off. He got caught plenty by Algieri, he's going to get caught by Alvarez. And the weight gain isn't going to help him either. He just moved up to welter, he's going to look blown up and slow. I still can't believe this one.

How can anyone say this fight is not a farce? And of course Khan deserves credit for taking it and hooray for him getting a huge payday but what does that have to do with the mockery that this fight represents? Its incredible to me that this is somehow being legitimized because Khan has a set and will make a ton of cash. You know Floyd vs Kovalev would also make a ton of cash. This lineal Ring middleweight champion has yet to fight 1 middleweight. That’s accepted because people will pay for it??

It is a fairly bonkers fight and does reflect poorly on Canelo. DLH is trying to make comparisons with him and Pac, but DLH fails to acknowledge that he was old, shot and had to boil down to a mad weight. This is very different. If Khan pulls this off he is a genius, but the consensus seems to be that he is a bit daft. Very odd fight to be making when Khan can be fighting the likes of Garcia and probably win comfortably.

Bullsh*t move by Canelo, but par for the course. Even I didn't think Canelo would stoop this low. No disrespect to Khan, who's showing an industrial-sized pair of balls..... but c'mon. This breaks new ground for Canelo and Team Golden Boy. They're not even trying to disguise this under the semblance of a decent and fair confrontation.

The gravy train continues. A bloated record built on mostly has-beens and woefully undersized fighters. What a horrific farce! I've said it before and I'll say it again...... Canelo and JCC Jr. have a lot more in common than just their nationality.

    Pathetic.

It's a fight that might have made a bit more sense after they had fought the real challenge in their own weight division. Post Khan/Brook and Canelo/Golovkin then a catchweight money making spectacle makes sense, and possibly even more sense, had they both lost. The date though factors into this and while Canelo has had his warm up, and could fight GGG on the same date, and still make huge money, Golovkin looks to now be fighting Wade in April and Brook is busy in March.

It has all the hallmarks of a possibly great and definitely entertaining fight, but it's also neither a mandatory gimme or any kind of preparation for Canelo to face the REAL middleweight champ, or Khan to face his own nemesis back home. In that sense it's bollocks.

    Everyone will watch though.

That's all fair comment, but if it's such an interesting fight, then don't make it for the title.
The reality is, that if there wasn't a title at stake , a.) it wouldn't generate as much interest, and b.) it would have a touch of the "Circus act" look about it.
at the end of the day, a World Title fight should NEVER have a catchweight or weight limit other than the official division weight limit.
