Wow... they just presented the Super Bowl MVP's from the last 49 years, in commemoration of Super Bowl 50.
Nice!

I don't really understand American football, but after watching a weekend if Six Nations rugby, I'm not that impressed with the super bowl. There is about a second of action, then a long break with loads of posturing and posing around by the players? Nobody seems to know how to tackle and there have been more big hits in about one phase of rugby union? Am I missing something here?

well its not the sport for everyone, the waiting before the plays is part of the game, it actually makes it fairly interesting , I moved from scotland to canada and had a season ticket for the cfl and it is actually a pretty fun game if you get past your preconceived ideas about whether you are going to like it or not.. The north american style of presentation for their sports is certainly very un british but to be fair it brings in the money :S and these games are more of an event than an actual game most of the time.
Pretty interesitng game so far, no one is running away with it, manning doesnt seem to be doing super well, I hope he is saving something for late in the game because it might come down to the last seconds..
I have 5 dollars on denver to win and 2 dollars on the point total being exactly 44 :S
Denver really need some good support from the offense here :S..... their defence is doing great but I am just getting the feeling from watching this that carolina are just on the verge of scoring a lot.... manning needs to step it up or get out of the way ! denver need some points !
Looks like denver did it, glad peyton gets to retire with a second superbowl but really denvers defence won this won, they really did contain the panthers all game ... good job denver. I won 10 dollars from this result !
The long breaks are necessary, as it is the time for calling plays both on offense and on defense. I compare it to the lulls in the action in baseball.... and it's a lot more exciting for me. I've seen rugby and although there are less breaks in the action, it all seems to be a little helter-skelter, with no strategy or play-calling.... just non-stop running around. Different strokes, I guess.
True. They are actually very different games aren't they.
NFL looks to me like every player is a specialist in one particular thing only. That means that there skill set won't be very wide but they will be pretty damn excellent at the thing they do. They also probably don't need a lot of stamina as the plays seem short and very explosive, so the physique is different from rugby players. I don't think the hits are that hard, plus they have lots of padding - but hardly any of the players tackle properly, they just launch themselves at each other.
Rugby is very different. I take your point about it looking helter skelter, but there is quite a lot of tactics and strategy. It's harder to carry out that strategy when the play is more or less continuous, so the very best teams and players are those who can keep a clear head and follow their game plan under great pressure.

Got to disagree on the tackling. Running backs and Wide receivers run at track pace. Their ability to stop, and start is surreal.
But the average human being given twenty paces..couldn't outrun the fattest guys on defence.
And there are examples on YouTube that show these guys hit each other with the pressure of a minor (CAR) accident. Concussions are constant.
However I see Rugby like you see American football. I can appreciate the level of stamina in Rugbee. Good grief!!!!! Can't smoke weed on the weekends and be a gr8 Rugby player!![]()
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Yeah I would say rugby gets the stamina box checked for sure!
Nothing like a nice long huddle to allow you to put your hands on your knees and wheeze your guts out!

Man, that was fantastic!!!
Found myself rooting for the old man...Good game.
Been away for a while...Tito.... never got the chance to eat Crowe for Rodgers.
Packers just don't have a complete team. Good, but not great.
And bask in the Minnesota Chokings missed field goal.
They have choked since the 1960s...just sad.

Rodgers is a good guy and a terrific QB. Almost makes me root for the Packers just 'cause of him. Still.... Brady continues being my favorite active QB. I know he's hated by some, but I like his leadership, his intensity, and his consistency. He got eaten alive by the Broncos D..... but after seeing what they did to Newton in the Super Bowl, I guess I can't blame Brady too much.
