Its interesting how social media seems to have become populated by people who actively troll it with a view to taking offence at something. Many people also deem themselves to somehow be entitled to take offence on behalf of others.

People become emotional narcissists, with a very simplified and immature outlook, roundly condemning people's right to free speech and even making personal attacks and death threats.

Ironic that the tool that was supposed to open up the world of human knowledge and democratise free speech has ended up being something that suppresses it, with the loud minority having a disproportionate amount of social power.

Personally, I don't really care what Manny Pacquiaio thinks about gay people. His opinion isn't that important to me, but it's quite laughable that this becomes a news story. It is on the front page of my BBC News feed. Madness.

Just as interesting is the idea that to comment or disagree with any view not seen as 'politicaly correct' is automatically assumed to correspond with jumping into the river of Kool Aid. It's dressed up as discourse, but it's not even on the level of a conversation between toddlers. Even, text, Wtf is that about? The internet is supposed to represent the future, and it's basically a bunch of leaflets and note pads not even aspiring to replace something as old as a telephone conversation.
