I don't follow the numbers very closely, obviously this fight will sell big and that's why it happened, they were willing to pay Martin a lot more than he is worth for the fact. Deontay Wilder isn't really a big draw compared to anyone I feel like? He'll make people money fighting in smaller venues in his home state, and being with Al Haymon probably get rewarded very well for it. A fight between him and Martin for instance wouldn't sell shit on it's own, when on paper it is what people were saying the division lacked for so long. Two undefeated Americans who look the part and have big power, in a unification fight, but who cares? It's not just because they are both paper champs either.

I've hear a rumour that Wlad will return as he is in his prime at 39. So could be some interesting matchups for him .

McGuigan thinks it's a "hell of a gamble"
“It’s a hell of a gamble with 15 fights under his belt,” McGuigan told The Sunday Telegraph yesterday. “I expected Joshua to get Dillian Whyte out of there in the first or second round in December last year but he made a real meal of that fight.
“It exposed a level of vulnerability and defensive flaws that need to be ironed out. I understand where they’re going with this. They’re taking a calculated risk. Martin himself is relatively underdeveloped as a fighter.
“But he can wallop, he’s a southpaw and the defensive flaws I saw against Whyte give him a chance....
Barry McGuigan: Anthony Joshua taking 'hell of a gamble' against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin - Telegraph
He can say he would give Joshua another year but that's at least three fights, and even at the level he has faced so far, It's still heavyweight boxing, and three chances to get knocked out. It's an opportunity that Hearn would have been daft to have not pursued.

I think Hearn could have turned this down and allowed AJ to develop and at least go the distance with a fighter. AJ could get Haye, Fury and anyone else any time he wants because he has a huge fan base. They turned those fights down because he is not ready. AJ most likely will win but then will have to develop experience by making defences of the paper title.
It is all unnecessary risk.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

These jealous hypocrites want AJ to fail so they can have a pop at Matchroom. Pathetic.
If AJ wins Martin was an untested nobody, if he loses we told you so. Zzzzzzzz
